sort of a similar type situation

L and I went to see Star Trek Beyond yesterday afternoon and I enjoyed it immensely. Not just because it was about EIGHT MILLION TIMES better than Into Darkness (the awfulness of which I recently had reconfirmed as my dad watched it while I was with him on vacation; what an absolute clusterfuck of a movie), but also because BONES. *hearteyes* McCoy ( Read more... )

"went nuts on account of abandonment and crew dying and exposure to alien life forces" was kind of what i figured for krall too. made as much sense as anything else.

the pic of the tos cast in spock prime's things made me tear up, no lie.

the sabotage scene in the first movie was dumb from top to bottom - kid!kirk joyriding in that car would be like you or me going for a spin in an 18th century carriage, and seriously, no punkass of kirk's vintage is going to do that - but the reappearance of the song and kirk's reaction was fun. i thought all the music was really good, actually.

spock&bones were the best. i love bones - he's so cranky, and karl urban is always great to watch - and getting to see him and spock making their way around was pretty fab. but the bones&kirk stuff was lovely too. you can totally see what good friends they are ( ... )

Yes to all of this!

I thought the space station was very pretty and a cool design, but I was like, THERE IS NO UNDERGROUND TO PROTECT YOU FROM INVASION.

jaylah! she was THE BEST. i'm assuming there's going to be another movie, and i hope she's in it.

I hope so too! I hope she's not just a one and done like Gaila, who I also loved.

I agree with so much of this. Especially BONES! *loves* Also agree that the villain was totally nonsensical. Not sure if the trailers are always the same for every showing, but I hated every single one in my theater -- so much mindless violence and toxic masculinity. Almost made me wonder whether I would actually like the feature film to come!

I think they saw that the director was the dude from the Fast and Furious franchise and went all out with action movie trailers that were not best suited to the actual audience interested in a Star Trek movie? At least I hope that's what it was.
