now is greater than the whole of the past

Board meeting went well (new boss1 hugged me afterwards!!!) though it felt like it took me forever to get home (in reality, it was only an hour, but that's because for some reason there were no non-express uptown buses on 3rd Avenue; finally the 1st Avenue bus showed up [detoured onto 3rd for some reason] so I took that, and because it wasn't the 'real' 3rd Avenue bus, it never got crowded so I had a seat and everything).

December talking meme, ahoy:

December 10: thoughts about femslash. Anything, really! Soft spots for ships, what you'd like to write if you had the time, where you see f/f going in the future, etc. for an anonymouse on Tumblr.

I would like to write more femslash. I know I say that a lot, but that's because it's true. I'd like to have ideas for the pairings I love (e.g., Korrasami, Kate/Renee, Babs/Dinah, Steph/Cass, Rikki/Anya *cough*Rikki's not dead shut up*cough*, Buffy/Faith, River/Kaylee, Rory/Paris, Jessica/Trish), but aside from right now not having any ideas about anything at all (writing is hard!), I find that I don't come up with those ideas on my own for the most part - most of the femslash I've written over the years (and there's a sadly small amount of it) has been either as pinch hits in the femslash exchange or as my assignment or treats for Yuletide. But I do like writing it when the idea or prompt strikes, and I enjoy reading it for pairings I like and I wish there was more tropey fic for the pairings I like (Steph/Cass undercover in a gay bar! Everyone thinks Rory and Paris are dating! Trish and Jessica are fake dating to protect Trish from fanboys! etc.). I also don't have the issues with terminology that a lot of people do - I get why it's difficult, but I also write a lot of het, so I have made my peace with the terminology we have.

As for the future, I think the growing number of shows that have multiple female characters who actually interact with each other in a variety of ways can only lead to more and better femslash as time goes on (in addition to having actual canon f/f pairings like Korrasami or Sara/Nyssa or Clarke/Lexa; I'm still mad at BSG for not making Kara/Kat or Kara/Kendra a canon thing).

There's still a bunch of dates available, so if you have a topic you'd like me to talk about, comment here.

Arrow: Dark Waters
The only reason I'm not completely enraged about this episode is because I can't believe they're actually killing Felicity off so clumsily - I mean, it's the most cliched fridging I've seen in a while, so it can't actually be happening, right? And you'd think they'd have learned from killing off Shado, Moira, and Sara, right? Especially after all the work they had to do to bring Sara back from the stupidity of her death. And also that grave was six months in the future and it's only been three months since the premiere. And Barry wouldn't have missed Felicity's funeral and would have been more torn up about it. And they certainly wouldn't have cut a promo that was all "Felicity's dead" because that's a huge spoiler if it's true.

Like, there is no way this isn't a fakeout right? Maybe they fake her death to fool Darhk? Or she is paralyzed and becomes Oracle but isn't dead? I just can't see what the show gains by killing her, while what it loses seems catastrophic.

Other than those last few minutes, I really enjoyed this episode! Malcolm as Green Arrow! "I see you've got your bondage outfit on." *dies* Basically Malcolm was comedy gold in this episode. "I'm Ra's al Ghul." The "bitch" was implied. Hee! Felicity discovering Donna and Quentin's romance! Oliver and Felicity being absolutely DARLING with each other. ♥♥♥ Plus Oliver committing to defeating Darhk in the light. (I love how cheesy this is!) Laurel using the Canary Cry to shatter the gas chamber! Darhk's "There's other fish in the sea." It looks like Darhk's using Ra's' usual rationale for killing a whole city, which is fine, because Ra's himself didn't seem to have any use for it last season (or any other reason - I have totally fanwanked that arc as Ra's having gone Pit crazy and just not making any sense whatsoever).

But they're totally trolling us with Felicity's "death." I have to believe that, or I'm going to have to quit the show.

So I guess that's one way to go into hiatus.

Star Wars Rebels: Legacy
Well, that was parts of a strong episode weighed down by writing that was too something - glib? facile? - to make it really work. Like, I don't care that much about Ezra on the whole (I'm here for Hera in the main cast [and maybe a little of Kanan/Hera] and Ahsoka, Rex, and Vader recurring), but they did a really nice job here with making him feel real, like a kid who misses his parents and wants to find them, and they should have let that breathe a bit, because the resonances of it in Star Wars carry a lot of weight (and also, it being Star Wars, I totally expected that cat-thing to take his hand off. I am just saying.) but I thought it was too rushed, and not given the proper weightiness. For example, Ezra launching himself at the Inquisitors should have been a really fraught moment! Is he reaching for the Dark Side? But then blam! Kanan just shoots out the door lock. Also, the Inquisitors have gone from formidable to a joke (though I did like Fifth Brother calling Kallus on his failures; do I see Force chokes in all their futures?), though Seventh Sister is creepy as fuck, so good job there. On the other hand, the memory Ezra has fading in and out of the present was really well done, and it was nice to see the bond between him and Kanan at work. Plus, the golden pipes of Clancy Brown as Ryder Azadi!

This seemed like an odd episode to go to midseason hiatus on, tbh, especially with the movie coming out in 8 days. Is there an episode next week?
