bells on low, on high

I probably should have gone with a smaller font to celebrate last night's Mets win, since it's just the division series, but for the most part, everything now is icing on the beautiful cake for me (and other Mets fans I know). Having a winning season, not blowing out any more young arms, making the playoffs - those would have been enough to make me happy with "wait 'til next year!" so moving on to the NLCS is pure extra joy. If i were a gambling woman, I'd want to go gambling with Terry Collins. His confidence in his pitchers - in all his players, really - is a thing to behold. I thought he'd pull deGrom early, given how he struggled, but nope. And deGrom gutted it out for six full innings and got the win! And then giving Syndergaard an inning in relief (honestly though, how fragile are these young guys that getting up four times to warm up would be damaging? Isn't it just like pitching your half of an inning and then sitting while your team bats?). And THEN Familia coming in for the six out save! And letting him bat! How often do you even see a reliever come to bat in the eighth inning of a win-or-go-home game these days? (I will spare you my disgruntled curmudgeon thoughts on innings limits, the hyperspecialization of relievers and how all these damn kids need to get off my lawn.) What a ride!

Bring on the Cubs! (I am amused at how this playoff season is now full of also-rans - the Royals are the team with the most post-season experience! How is that even happening?)

I'm glad it's Friday. I'm going home to bed to catch up on all the sleep I've lost to baseball this week. And then it starts up again tomorrow!

I did manage to watch Steven Universe before the sports started. So Amethyst should look more like Jasper? Or like Rose Quartz? And fusion is to only be used in fighting, according to Peridot? Along with last week's info about Pearl, these are fascinating little bits of information from Gem Homeworld, which also go far in explaining why Pearl and Garnet (and eventually, Amethyst) would team up with Rose and rebel instead of staying with the Homeworld party line. Very interesting. And Peridot is growing as a person. Gem. Whatever. <3

Finally, anyone out there interested in giving my yuletide letter a once-over? I'm still waffling over a couple of my requests, but would appreciate another set of eyes on it to make sure it's not overly demanding or specific etc.
