bits and bobs:

= How Captain America Made Chris Evans a True Movie Hero

= Exclusive: Spoilery MCU details on Civil War, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man & more. I don't know how true any of the stuff in this article is, but I will cut for potential Civil War movie spoilers (I don't care about Ant-Man or Doctor Strange so I won't be discussing those).

Here are the money quotes:
the project is referenced as CIVIL WAR, not CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.

Part of me is cynically thinking RDJ is responsible for this as well, so he's not playing second banana in someone else's solo franchise, but part of me is glad because fuck having Tony Stark take over a Cap movie. DNW.

In terms of who's facing off with who: So far it looks like Cap, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Falcon vs. Iron Man, War Machine, The Vision, and Ant-Man, with the Scarlet Witch and Black Panther somewhere in the mix. Oh, and expect to see Ant-Man take on the Giant-Man form in battle. How cool will that be, eh?

and

Instead of the New Warriors being the catalyst for the Superhero Registration Act, it will be Crossbones (in costume) who will be the catalyst that kicks off the film, instigating an attack that causes much death and destruction, causing the government to step in and put out the Superhero Registration Act.

The other element that will be a key focus is The Winter Soldier, whose existence is the big question as he has the ability to be a hero, but has also been a villain. This causes the main rift between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, as the disagreement leads them to opposing sides. The main thrust, as in the comics, looks to be "if there is a threat - should The Avengers show up, is it their place to do so, and what gives them the authority to do so?"

Which is what a lot of people, including me, were speculating. It's the only way to make a Civil War storyline make sense in the MCU, and it does follow up on the Bucky stuff (which was more important when it was branded as a Captain America movie; I'm still sad and annoyed we're not getting Cap 3: Up All Night to Get Bucky, but that was never going to happen once RDJ got involved. Bah. I am so not interested in another movie about Tony Stark.) and that is really the main thing I want. It makes sense that the conflict would be "POW for 70 years who was tortured and made to kill" vs. "world's most successful assassin" and that Steve and Tony would be on opposite sides of that divide. I hope there is a post-credits tag where we see Steve knocking on the door of Nelson & Murdock, Avocados at Law to prepare for Bucky's defense. Irish Catholic superheroes from NYC should stick together! (And I'm sure Charlie Cox would like that too!)

Chris Evans is still contracted for at least half of Infinity War (he was contracted for 3 Cap movies and 3 Avengers movies and I don't know how splitting the third Avengers movie affects the contract or if they renegotiated that), so hopefully he won't die here (though rumor has it they want to give him a romance in Civil War? Now I'm even more annoyed at the bullshit Bruce/Nat in AOU, because we could have had ONSCREEN STEVE/NATASHA. I just want them to makeout with each other a lot, okay? Also, I'm not a fan of Steve/Sharon and I'm hoping they don't go in that direction, for a variety of reasons, but I guess we'll see.)

Anyway, I still think it's going to be a mess, but maybe it'll be a mess I like better than I liked AOU. I've enjoyed Markus & McFeely's stuff so far...

Elementary
I liked the Holmes & Bell stuff here, I LOVED the Cup stuff, and it was the actual Stanley Cup! I'm sad Clyde didn't get to swim in it though. #because it's the cup

I'd like to think Bell was more upset by Shauna keeping her IAB identity a secret rather than the hoary old IAB=rats business that was old in the 90s and is super uncomfortable in the current environment, but Joan being all "They jam up a lot of good cops!" kind of belies that. I did like the shots it took at privatized prisons, and as soon as Maurice Levy showed up, I knew he had to be the killer.

Tangentially related, I enjoyed the Rangers-Caps game, but my god, Ovechkin is terrifying on the ice sometimes. I really did say, "you can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him!" unironically when he scored that goal. Jesus. Hopefully the Rangers will just score more. *hands* I wouldn't mind seeing Ovechkin lift the Cup, but not at the expense of my team.

Orphan Black
There were a lot of great moments in this episode: Alison & Donnie; Sarah and Felix hiding then revealing Seth's body to Art; Sarah & Art (though I'm bleh on Art having been in love with Beth); Felix, Scott and Cosima; Helena and Rudy and Paul (Paul was almost interesting! what the hell!?); Sarah and Gracie; but I'm not sure it held up as an episode? I don't even try to follow the plot twists until they explain them to me, you know? Speculating has mostly proved to be useless with this show.

I've slept poorly all weekend and I'm just meh right now. Sigh.
