I don't usually post twice a day anymore, but I wanted to keep this separate from the epic vacation post.
HOLY CRAP SPIDER-MAN IN THE MCU. PLEASE DON'T SUCK.
(Ob disclaimer: WHERE IS MY BLACK WIDOW MOVIE? SHE IS THE ARACHNID WHO SHOULD HAVE COME FIRST. And this just proves that Marvel could do it any time they wanted, if they actually wanted to. Fuckers.)
I have only two real hopes that I'm sure will be dashed:
1. that they will skip the origin story (even for Miles it's not that interesting/necessary; he got bit by a spider! As usual!)
2. that they will cast a non-white actor (even for Peter) [if he's non-white, he could even be named Chris!] (I mean, I love Andrew Garfield as Peter, but if he's not doing it, then the time has come! the time came a long time ago! Donald Glover! Alfie Enoch! Danny Pudi! Steven Yeun! Now I'm a little sad that Michael B. Jordan is Johnny Storm because he'd be a GREAT Peter Parker.)
As a corollary for number 1, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if they actually made him an adult - someone teaching science during the day and fighting crime by night! Just trying to keep body and soul together with no trust fund and no SHIELD backup! And it would obviate the need for the origin. But no doubt he'll be in high school yet again. Sigh. I just love the idea that he's been a little New York secret for a while, and SHIELD never recruited him (or he turned them down), but he's been doing it as long as anyone! UGH TOO MANY SPIDEY FEELS. MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT.
I'd also like to see JK Simmons reprise his turn as J. Jonah Jameson because that was brilliant casting. (Too bad they couldn't get him and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben into the same movie. Sigh.)
But I can't help but be excited at the thought of Steve and Peter in the same movie! Or possibly Peter asking what Bucky's grown up name is, or calling him Bucky Cap! Spider-Man is my forever favorite superhero, and while I liked TASM a lot, I also really want to see him interact with other heroes (sticking to Hulk's arm! HULK TICKLISH), and I would love to see a Miles and Ganke friendship on screen as well. Either way, I really, really don't want them to fuck this up!
Too bad we can't have Emma Stone as SPIDERGWEN. (though eventually could we have ANYA? And also RIKKI? AND ELI?) Though I like the internet's idea of an Chinese-American actor as Peter and then his Aunt May is Melinda May. I would be on board for that!
