Yesterday afternoon, I saw Star Trek Into Darkness with a bunch of fangirls and... okay. the movie itself is moderately entertaining (especially if you don't think too hard about it), and quite often hilarious, though not, I think, in ways it was intended to be? Also, there was nowhere near enough Karl Urban. I JUST WANT TO LOOK AT HIS PRETTY FACE

(I really wish they hadn't killed Pike, even if they wanted motivation. Killing a bunch of innocent people should actually be enough.)
I agree. I always hate when the heroes need some personal motivation. Um, a whole lot of people died and the planet may be in danger. That should be enough!
ng. Someone mentioned that it was almost a parody in some parts, although an unintentional one, I think. There's apparently a fine line between homage and parody, and I think sometimes Abrams badly misstepped.

It's odd: there are guys I find unattractive, but their faces don't really bother me (lots of character actors). This guy? Something about his face just bothers me.
He might have made a good Voldemort, though. I mean, if Ralph Fiennes had decided not to.
Anyway. YES, Marcus starting a war, and the militarization of Starfleet would have been a much more interesting, philosophical film (assuming our heroes are opposed to this). SO much more interesting than an incredibly weak remake of "The Wrath of Khan." It would have given Uhura so much more to do. It might have given Carol much more to do. It would have meant MORE KLINGONS, and there is no bad there, as far as I'm concerned.
But, no. *sigh*
