If you were a city, I'd expect to be robbed.

Last night, L. asked me if I ever make brownies and I said of course I do, but I hadn't in a while, and then today, I was mixing up the marinade for this buttermilk roasted chicken and there was a brownie recipe on the sidebar, which seemed like fate.

I made the brownies (pics), though I only had 70% Green & Black dark chocolate, so that is what I used, and I only had 1/4 cup of semisweet chips, so I tossed in some Hershey's kisses from my Easter candy stash. Regardless, the brownies came out very tasty - rich and fudgy and super chocolatey.

I also had that buttermilk roasted chicken for dinner (no pics! it wasn't particularly attractive), though since I only had boneless, skinless thighs, that is what I used, and I didn't have dill, so I used rosemary, plus oregano, basil, garlic and onion. Also, next time I will probably cut out the salt, since I thought the chicken was pretty salty and I usually only use it in baking. So, it isn't exactly that recipe, but the idea is the same. Anyway, the chicken was very moist and tasty so I recommend it.

In other news,
intrasitive recorded a podfic of my Max/Alec remix Take These Lies (And Make Them True Somehow). \o/

I can't believe I wrote that five years ago. I can't even deal with the passage of time. I also can't deal with my current inability to write. I hope it passes soon. Ugh.

Today's poem:

Traveler

Your first time out of the country
of your own skin, I didn't bring a map.

You always hated that I'd been lucky
enough to pick my way through streets

I couldn't pronounce to find cathedrals,
graveyards. If you were a city, you said,

I'd only like to know your suburbs.

If you were a city, I said, I'd like to know
your poor neighborhoods, your inner parts.

Read your graffiti. Drink your tap water.
Feel your smog and dirt stick to my sweat.

Hear your orchestra of sirens and gunshots.
I'd know which of your streets to walk.

If you were a city, I'd expect to be robbed.
