he's not a boy that you can change

So today was the series finale of Young Justice. It's a shame Cartoon Network cancelled it, because it got really good, though it's true that the second season focuses way more on plot than on character. And I don't understand why, if the reason it was cancelled had to do with Cartoon Network wanting to put its own programming in the slot, they revived Teen Titans Go, except the chibi versions. Which I don't understand either. I mean, they're adorable in 60 second bursts, but I'm not sure 22 minute episodes will work. I guess we'll see.

Anyway, the finale. Wow, they made me cry for Wally. I was like "They're going to kill Barry off and Wally will become the Flash!" but no, poor Wally gets the shaft again. If only he hadn't been so annoying in season 1, I probably would have cried more.

I did love that we got a version of Jaime and Khaji Da as friends, and that they defeated Black Beetle because of it.

It did seem a little rushed though. Believe me, I know ALL ABOUT rushing the ending. I guess because this season was cut off at 20 eps instead of 22? And all the extensive hiatuses didn't help with the pacing. And I'm sad that we're never going to get to see the Apokolips storyline they were thinking about, because it might have brought Big Barda on board, and you KNOW I love me some Big Barda.

I was watching with my parents, since they graciously allowed me to interrupt their continuous viewing of the Food Network, so I didn't actually burst out with THAT'S BULLSHIT when Superboy asked when Tim and Cassie got together, but I certainly thought it. SUCH BULLSHIT. ON BOTH SIDES. WHAT THE HELL, SHOW?

I was glad to see M'gann and Superboy back together, though. I think because while I like YJ!Superboy, he's not Kon, so I don't feel insistent that he be with Tim. *hands* I don't know. (certainly, I was all DNW when the fandom tried to pair him with Dick, because NO.)

I suppose if I liked and/or cared about La'gaan, I would have cared about his reconciliation with Kaldur, but I don't, so I didn't.

And poor Dick is going to go back to Bludhaven and probably get himself in over his head while he self-flagellates, but hopefully he will get his own cheerful sidekick when Steph shows up as Spoiler. (What? it's already an AU. I DO WHAT I WANT THOR.)

All in all, now that it's over, I'd recommend it, and I bet it works even better if you watch it without huge months-long gaps between episodes, but the second season does sort of shortchange the relationships among the original kids in favor of extending the cast and making the plot really complicated. Still, though, I enjoyed it a lot.

I did my taxes this afternoon (getting a refund, thankfully). Of course, my dad's printer ran out of black ink in the middle of printing, but since it wasn't 4 am and I didn't have a paper due in the morning, there were no meltdowns. Just some flashbacks. *hands*
