no fate but what we make

I don't think I mentioned this, but I got free tickets to see Picnic, but since they were not on dates L. could make it, we also bought cheap tickets for next week, and then last night,
innie_darling and I used my free tickets. The crowd was not quite as squeeing fangirl as I expected, though the fangirl contingent was definitely present (and I don't just mean us). The free seats were in the orchestra and were surprisingly good (I was not confident that they would be after the rigamarole to get the tickets).

The play itself is dated and I kind of can't understand why they revived it, even for a special limited run, but I'm happy to report that the torso named Trouble Sebastian Stan does all right and doesn't embarrass himself and he looks quite stunning in person, though, oddly enough, more attractive out of character in the curtain calls; in fact, they absolutely play up his beefcakeness with a wink and a nod (I can't remember if the movie plays it that way, but I also don't find William Holden attractive so who knows) and one of the themes of the play is that everybody wants something pretty but good looks can only take you so far. Maggie Grace is all right but Madge is kind of a thankless part. The whole thing goes a little over the top in ways that I think undermined the story? And I'm not sure how I'll feel about sitting through it twice, but I'm okay with having bought cheaper tickets to do so. It also made me excited about Winter Soldier gearing up for filming starting in March. ♥BUCKY♥

Since I was out, I didn't get to watch the Fringe finale until this morning (I haven't been on Tumblr in days to avoid spoilers). I thought it was a fitting end to a show that sometimes stumbled but overall exceeded expectations and had a hell of a lot of heart, and as much as I emotionally detached myself from it in s4, I am going to miss having OLIVIA DUNHAM, BADASS on my tv every week. The ending was the ending I think everyone I know was predicting since the beginning of the season - the reset to the moment they lost Etta (with no explanation of how everything could still lead to that moment with no Observers in the picture, and honestly, it's best not to think too much about the mytharc on Fringe - it fits together better than, say, XF, but it still is full of retcons and red herrings and dead ends), but the moment Peter gets the white tulip was lovely, and I hope he finds the video of Walter explaining it, though who knows if that even exists anymore.

I thought it was really fitting to end the story the same way it began - with Walter saving someone else's son and walking him through a portal to a different world. I teared up a little at Walter's goodbye to Astrid - "It's a lovely name" and GENE. I was so pleased that Broyles made it, and I enjoyed all the callbacks to the earlier seasons and their gross cases. I also loved that we got one final moment with AltLivia and Lincoln, and that they're happy and the redverse is healed, though I was sad Charlie was not around.

I also watched this morning's Young Justice. I feel cheated of Superboy and M'gann's conversation about what's going on with her, and I'm worried for Kaldur if Psimon does read his mind, and I'm also really glad that Tim got to stay with his in-laws (I forget that Tim/Kon is not a thing that exists in this universe sometimes, though I still want a teamup of the core four from the comics YJ at some point) the Kents were helping out, and also, the Green Beetle of Mars. Is this actually a thing? I don't care because THE GREEN BEETLE OF MARS. AWESOME. And of course Jaime and Bart. ♥♥♥ And Lex wants to put together his own team of teenage superheroes, because of course he does. And Sportsmaster and Cheshire are out to avenge Artemis, and Deathstroke finally shows up. I feel like nothing will ever top Slade from Teen Titans Go, so this Deathstroke should just never speak.

And now I believe my boiled oranges should be cool enough for me to bake a cake. And then tonight, HOCKEY. YOUR 2013 NEW YORK RANGERS vs. the Boston Bruins. I AM EXCITE.
