we're not above birds

My dad came home from the hospital yesterday, so that's good. The visiting nurse was just here, going over his meds etc.

Oh, man, it's time to start thinking about yuletide? I don't have the patience to scroll through thousands of comments, and I'm fairly sure some of the stuff I would nominate will make it on the list - Elementary, Kings, Political Animals, Ultimate Spider-man, Middleman, Ocean's 11 - I will add Blue Beetle and Young Allies and the new CAPTAIN MARVEL. I wonder if Journey Into Mystery is permissible? Depending on what happens, I might need to ask for kid!Loki fic. Also! That new show, The Fall, with Gillian Anderson and Archie Panjabi, and Jamie Dornan as the serial killer? Is that going to air in time for fic to be written? Because that has serious ladyslash potential.

I will have to think some more about what I really want, since I got so many awesome things last year.

Speaking of Ultimate Spider-man, I read issue 14 earlier and will I ever be able to read this comic WITHOUT sobbing like a baby? When Aunt May gives Miles the box with Peter's webshooters, and tells him to do what Miles Morales would do, I totally lost it. (I had kind of hoped Peter would give Miles webshooters in Spider-men, but this worked, too. Boy howdy, did it.)

Also, the book opens with Gwen Stacy speaking for all of us when she calls Captain America a jerk and Captain Jerk of the Ultimate Jerk Squad. (Also, the eagle from the Muppets, but I think we all know Sam the Eagle is far more compassionate than Ultimate!Cap.)

So Cap lays down the law for Miles, who is like, "But Nick Fury said I could!" and MJ calls Cap out on his culpability in Peter's death and says that he's just forbidding Miles because he feels guilty (AS WELL HE SHOULD) for Peter's death. And he's just like, "Whatever! I will have you thrown in jail and tattle to your parents if I catch you again!" and then he goes off on his motorcycle, because maybe he is having pangs of conscience but he is still vile and I still hate him. (I kind of hate to say this, but aside from EVERY OTHER INCARNATION OF STEVE ROGERS being a better person than this douchecanoe, I feel like not having Bucky as a sidekick/partner [Bucky was a war correspondent in the Ultimateverse, iirc] and then losing him really did damage to the character. That loss really shapes SO MUCH of who Steve is in the present in 616 and the movies and A:EMH and it's just not there to give him any kind of depth of feeling in Ultimates.)

So Miles, because he's a good kid who feels like he should help out because he has superpowers, goes to help and he saves the day, and finally ultimate!Cap agrees to help train him. I just hope he doesn't get Miles killed, because ♥MILES♥.

Sigh. I am having trouble getting untracked on any of my wsip. Why is writing so hard? Instead of writing, I spent last night playing bubblespinner and imagining Chris Evans in baseball pants. He should really do a baseball movie. Universe, I don't ask for much. You should totally give me that.
