like a star that can't wait for a night

So I am kind of getting excited about The Amazing Spider-man despite myself, because PETER PARKER IS MY FOREVER FAVORITE SUPERHERO and Martin Sheen is Uncle Ben. Sadly, it seems the midnight shows are on Monday night, not Tuesday as I anticipated, so I guess that's out. I would have done it on 7/3 (7/4) because obviously, 7/4 is the holiday, and since it's a Wednesday, I'm not going out to the island for Mary Ellen's birthday bbq. But I am actually working on 7/3. I guess I'll see it that night maybe. Any NYC fangirls interested in making it an outing?

Speaking of Spider-man, in the most roundabout way, I finished watching Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes this morning. While it does not match up to JL/JLU (or even Young Justice or, for me, Teen Titans Go) in terms of emotional investment (too much fighty-fighty all the time and nobody seemed to have any kind of personal life, though Hawkeye was always amusing), I did really enjoy it. I think in the end, T'Challa is my favorite. He's just so sensible. They need to add him (and Sam Wilson. And Rhodey) to Avengers 2 and he should be played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. (Idris Elba or Isaiah Mustafa can be Luke Cage and Aldis Hodge can be Sam. While Yvonne Strahovski is my mental Dinah, I would absolutely accept her as Carol Danvers, or maybe Bobbi Morse, and Anna Torv can be Carol? And Sandra Oh as Jessica Jones.) And I might have come out of it wanting Tony/Jan FWB fic, mostly because ugh, Hank Pym is the worst, and I don't mean that in a good Britta Perry kind of way. He's just awful. I still can't believe they're bothering to make a movie about him when he's such a waste of space and there are so many other, better characters (T'Challa, Carol Danvers, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, I could go on...).

ANYWAY. Thor is pretty awesome in this last batch of episodes. He's like Superman at the end of JLU, where he finally gets to cut loose and just hammer (pun completely intended) away at bad guys instead of having to hold back against tiny humans.

I liked that they brought Spidey back, and Rhodey, and Wolverine (and there were two fastball specials! That always makes me laugh.) and Luke and Danny (how married are they?) and then Bucky and Sam and Natasha in the finale.

The Kree trying to build a wormhole through our solar system reminded me of the much more emotionally resonant Thanagarian arc on JL/JLU. Possibly because of how attached I was to Hawkgirl at that point, her distress and betrayal, her attempt at redemption - all of that meant a lot more to me, though I admit I almost got teary over T'Challa sacrificing himself, except for how he came back, so it was okay.

So I enjoyed it and am sorry that it's being canceled for something that will likely be less good, if Ultimate Spider-man is anything to go by.

Now, I guess I'll just keep waiting for Young Justice to come back.
