"You can't divide tape with tape! You created a paradox!"

I have a terrible headache. I thought it was because I was hungry, but I ate and I still have it. Sigh. I think it's the humidity or barometric pressure or something. Stupid weather.

Meanwhile, Saturday morning cartoons.

Legend of Korra: Out of the Past

SOKKA! YOU ARE STILL MY MOST FAVORITEST. BOOMERANG GETS A SHOUT OUT! And Sparky Sparky Boom Man! ♥

I'm sad we didn't get to see Katara kick Yakone's ass but I guess she's home with the kids? Aang certainly grew up nicely. But he'll always be Twinkletoes to Toph. ♥ I want some Aang-Korra conversation, though, and some 42yo Katara.

Well, it's nice to see speculation pay off re: Tarrlok being Yakone's son (and Yakone being voiced by Clancy Brown, who also voiced Long Feng [and Lex Luthor, of course]), and being a bloodbender, though I'm not sure how the timing plays out because I thought this was supposed to be ~43 years ago and Tarrlok is supposedly 37?

Oh dear, maths. alternately, timelines? What timelines?

ANYWAY. AMON IS A BADASS. The way he fought through the bloodbending was very impressive. And he saved the day. In a terrible way, but still. I don't know how I feel about that.

LIN BEI FONG IS AWESOME. I really liked her noir raincoat over her armor. And her zipping up Bolin's zipper. Heh. Also, she's been Spider-man, Wolverine, Batman (and Commissioner Gordon), and today, in putting on her armor, she was Iron Man. LIN BEI FONG IS ALL YOUR SUPERHEROES.

And I also loved that Korra rescued herself. So nice to see her being clever. Possibly Tarrlok did her a favor by making her sit and think for a while instead of just rushing off to do something. And I loved that Naga was looking for her! ♥

MEELO ANSWERING THE PHONE! HEE! HE IS THE BEST.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Korra/Mako business - I mean, it was always going that way? And I do kind of ship it, so I'm okay with it, but I wish they would give Asami more interesting stuff - I liked that she drove that sled etc. and that she's still on Team Avatar despite Mako's behavior. I also don't think Mako is the worst dude to ever be confused about liking two hot girls who like him. I mean, he certainly needs to sit down and get his head on straight before anybody gets any more hurt, but I think he's made the kind of mistake most 18yos make, so... it depends on what he does going forward, once he understands how his behavior has hurt Asami - that's the real test.

Young Justice: Depths

Man, I would have been very vexed if I hadn't been right about 1. Artemis' death being a fakeout, and 2. Kaldur being under deep cover.

As it is, HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS AWESOME. I will even forgive the annoying "10 hours earlier" bullshit that is always a signal that we're being faked out, as if we've never seen a tv show before.

ARTEMIS, BABY, I'VE MISSED YOU. (FANDOM, BRING ME ALL THE DICK/WALLY/ARTEMIS FIC. I never really was interested in Dick/Wally in the first season, but Artemis/everyone is right up my alley.) Clearly M'gann has missed you, too, and needs your help.

Holy shit, M'gann pulled a Willow on Conner. No wonder he's so...angsty over the whole thing. Oh, Superboy, I just want you to be happy. You should go hang out with Tim.

"There's no static on the psychic link!" *dies*

Mermaid M'gann was adorable.

Was that Carol Ferris?

Anyway, so Dick, Wally, Kaldur and Artemis are hiding from the rest of the team that they know what's going on, and there's no way that's not going to blow up in their faces when the rest of the team finds out. I can't wait to see the fallout from that. I kind of can't believe how good this show has gotten, given how it was kind of eyerollingly mediocre to start.

I love the Teen Titans shorts: "You can't divide tape with tape! You created a paradox!" According to AV Club, they're bringing the show back? Or they're going to do a new show with chibi!Titans? As long as the theme song stays the same, I am okay with that. I might need to do a rewatch. I would also like a full 30 minute Super Best Friends Forever cartoon every week. (though I still think that Batgirl should be Steph. Pfft. Whatever DC.)

When I look at the things that are happening on these shows, I shake my head SO MUCH at Jeph Loeb's desire for Marvel cartoons to be less serialized and more like Ultimate Spider-man, which, despite my love of Spidey, is not very good (and, in fact, I mostly find it irritating because nobody ever learns anything!). When I look at what these shows are currently doing, and what all the DCAU has done, and AtLA, and even Teen Titans (which apparently a lot of people don't like? but the Slade and Trigon arcs are some really good TV), I don't understand why this guy thinks kids don't want serialized shows, or that they can't handle them. I still don't think Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is in the same league, because the character growth has been almost non-existent, and there's too much fighty-fighty, but it does pretty well with the serialized plot bits and I've enjoyed it a lot, but now it's canceled so we'll never know how much better it could get.
