those old eternity blues

Wrote and posted a story this morning:

Mandatory Minimums (at AO3)
DCU; Damian Wayne, Dick Grayson, Stephanie Brown (Damian/Steph); pg; 1,235 words
Damian doesn't think about sex.

It's only because of other people's awesome stories that I came to see Steph/Damian as a possible and, indeed, likeable pairing, and this morning I woke up with the desire to write some myself, though this is more about Damian's at the time unrequited (and unwanted) infatuation with her. Mostly written to amuse myself and to provide yet another variation of Bruce's version of The Talk, the thought of which never fails to make me laugh like a drain.

Also, I had this terrible idea this morning that I should write a Rogue/Bucky story, because hey, he has a metal arm. He could touch her. And it would make Logan super cranky, which is kind of the best flavor of Logan there is. Even leaving aside my lack of desire to ever write XMM again, I feel like it would be way too much work to figure out why Bucky and Rogue even meet in the movieverse (and yes, I'm considering the X-Men and Spider-man films part of the whole Marvel movieverse, even though technically they are not because of whatever ownership reasons), let alone have sex. So that will probably not happen, though it does amuse me to think about it.

After I posted, I went for a pedicure (it was a lot colder than I liked, considering i was wearing flipflops to facilitate the whole process) and then met up with fleurdeleo to go see Tower Heist. It wasn't my first choice of movies, but I enjoyed it, mostly because it's Eddie Murphy as I first loved him, sharp-eyed and motor-mouthed. Also, Casey Affleck was in it, so I kept expecting them to be better at the heist part of it, because he's Virgil Malloy! Anyway, Eddie Murphy and Gabourey Sidibe were the best parts, imo, though I also enjoyed Tea Leoni's Lorraine Bracco impression as the FBI agent. Mostly, it made me want to watch Trading Places again, a movie I haven't seen in years, but which was highly formative in my youth.

I read that the movie was originally pitched as "Murphy's Eleven" and I think that would have been a much more interesting movie, so I'm kind of sad it didn't get made.

After the movie we had a late lunch/early dinner at Shake Shack, which was packed, and then dessert (nutella frappe, come to mama) at Little Brown, which was full of Chapin girls in their uniform blazers.

Before we ended up doing that, my plan for today had basically consisted of a Band of Brothers marathon, so I might do that tomorrow, despite the fact that I have so many shows I should catch up on.

Then I watched Young Justice: Disordered.

While this episode had some high points - I really liked Dick's realization that he doesn't want to be The Batman, though he still wants to be a hero, that he doesn't have the same kind of darkness inside that drives Bruce. Oh, Dick, you are always my favorite.

I also liked Superboy's ability to team up with the new gods without getting all ANGRY-SMASHY on them, and then his really sad admission that he was happy to become Superman so he wasn't devastated by the deaths of all his friends and everyone else. Oh, SB, it's okay. You'll grow into the whole having empathy thing.

The one thing I did wonder while all that fighty-fighty was going on in Metropolis was where the fuck was Superman?

Wally choking on his popcorn and choosing denial about his feelings for Artemis was enjoyable. Artemis being all faux-tough was good too.

The one thing I disliked was how they are apparently setting M'gann up as the mole. I hope it's just misdirection, and I hope they don't make her a white Martian (whatever that is), because they did mention how they were oppressed on Mars in the cheerleading episode and I am not prepared to deal with M'gann being some kind of infiltrator/bad guy. Not to mention how the fandom, which I have almost nothing to do with, would respond. Ugh. I fear this development a lot. It would be so much better if it were Superboy, the way it was in Teen Titans when he got all mind-controlled by Lex.

Also, there was Fringe tonight!

I don't really have much to say, because time travel stories always hurt my head, but that was really good. I still have my main fear about this show, which is that they will give all the cool stuff to Lincoln and Peter at Olivia's (and Astrid's) expense, when the show is about Olivia, and her relationships with them (as well as their relationship with each other).

Oh, Stephen Root. I always forget that he can do serious really well. This was heartbreaking - I love that it kind of echoed with "White Tulip" and "6B", and how the loss of a loved one can warp the universe, because of course that's what it feels like when it happens. Every apocalypse is personal. Walter is living proof of that.

I'm glad that Peter realized he was the one out of place and stopped trying to wrench the universe back into his preferred formation, though I'm sure it will snap back soon enough. (I was reading a recap of last week on HitFix the other day, and wow, my feelings were totally opposite of the reviewer's - he feels alienated from this new version of the characters, where I just want to know more, because at the heart, they are still the same characters I love. I wonder if my easy acceptance of multiple versions of the same characters grows out of writing and reading fanfic, or if my enjoyment of fanfic grows out of that easy acceptance.)

Since I began writing this post, yuletide nominations have opened. Woo!

[eta] So my nominations are done, but it wouldn't let me nominate Bucky in Nomad: Girl without a World because characters have to be unique, and apparently Captain America (2011) has been nominated (I guess someone who wants Captain America (Comics) is going to have to nominate all of them with "Comics" appended? That seems kind of unwieldy for fandoms that have more than one version of canon.) so I just nominated Natasha instead, but if someone else wanted to spend a nomination to get Bucky in with a (Nomad) appended on the end, they could. [/eta]

Lastly, me @ the love meme.
