So even though I was so tired I could barely see straight when I got home last night, I watched the two part finale of Kings and whoa. I am retroactively sad again about its cancellation, even though I don't really think Chris Egan had the acting chops to continue to play David as the rest of the story unfolded (I don't really think he had the ( Read more... )

I really need to watch it again so I can discuss it in more depth, but all I have is IAN MCSHANE RULES.

I never figured out if Chris Egan is just a lousy actor or if he's a good actor who was horribly, HORRIBLY miscast. And i disliked him in Kings enough that I'm not going to deliberately seek out his other work in order to find out (although I wouldn't avoid something if he comes up in it).

I have to admit I would have been curious to see what Sebastian Stan could have done iwth the role of David Shepherd. It would have sucked to lose him as Jack, but I think the show as a whole would've been stronger if the actor playing David had been stronger.

Yeah, he was just like, a black hole of charisma. Which might have worked had he been playing oh, anyone else.

*nod nod*

I think he's more charismatic and also more capable of playing the volatility that underlies a lot of David's apparent calmness, but Egan never really got across.

Enjoying your posts about Kings... Just got the DVDs a couple months ago. I'd watched the show when it originally aired, but needed to remind myself of all the Sebastian Stan goodness since he's taking up entirely too much space in the fangirl section of my brain right now! It truly was a great looking show, the colors, cinematography, etc. really pushed my buttons. And putting aside the biblical origins, I thought it was an interesting exercise in alternate universe world-building.

I never really disliked Chris Egan as David... he was just... too vanilla I guess compared to the rest of the characters... Now Michelle on the other hand... uggh!

Just to fangirl a bit... Probably my favorite scene of the series was Jack being confronted by Silas on the stairs about his homosexuality. Guh... Sebastian Stan can do more acting with his eyes alone... Can't wait to see the epic Winter Soldier angst in future CA movies!

It was beautifully made and written, absolutely. And it was nice to see so much of Sebastian Stan. *g*

I had less of a problem with Michelle because she wasn't central, so it didn't matter that she was kind of a blank spot. David's lack of charisma, though, was a big problem, considering he was the main character.

Man, I am so ready for that. I hope they don't screw it up.
