I'll never let you sweep me off my feet

Let's talk about the DC reboot.

I was curious and cautiously (stupidly) hopeful, so I got hold of Red Hood and the Outlaws, and ugh, I am so grossed out by what they're doing with Starfire that I can't even... *shudder* ( spoilers, if anyone cares )

comics: catwoman, comics: superboy, comics: blue beetle, comics: nightwing, comics: red hood & the outlaws, comics: batman and robin, just a typical prototype, comics: batwoman, comics, comics: wonder woman

I'm hoping that the thing with Kory is a plot point because otherwise that's a seriously weird retcon. If anythings ever been consistent about her it's that she's passionately attached to her friends. Does it look like they retconed Roy's ever having been a father out entirely? Gross as Cry for Justice was, it's even worse if poor Lian never existed at all.

Paco being a gang banger is baffling to me.

I hope so, but I'm not optimistic, because it lets them have her as the ultimate manic pixie dream girl who has sex with everybody.

*nod nod*

My understanding is that not only did he never have Lian, but also he wasn't a heroin addict, either, though that's from interviews, not from any text yet.

Yes, retcon the two things that made him interesting. He could be any dude who shoots arrows now. Whatever, DC.

Seriously. I liked the hints that there had been a past partnership between him and Jason, and that he at least seems to still be friends with Dick, but he was pretty flat here. Not as egregiously mischaracterized as Kory, but not as fully fleshed out as Jason.

Actually, Roy was still an addict, but apparently he never relapsed a second time. But yes, Lian does not exist and it sounds like she won't, at least until someone else gets their hands on him because Lobdell has no plans on bringing in Cheshire.

...that 'second time' should not be there. I miss the ability to edit comments. But yeah Lobdell has answered a ton of questions and he said basically that Roy was an addict but the fact that he had never relapsed and is coping is apparently important to the character now.

Ah, okay, I was confused.

Haha sorry! I only ever read the Titans stuff and most of that deal with either Roy before he had Lian or after he had her, so I never saw his and Cheshire's actual relationship, but it makes me sad, too. Roy was a great father and it was refreshing to see him actually GROW UP, and yeah it can happen later but at this rate who even know? /o\

Yeah, I mean, it's so gross on a meta level that they've gotten rid of everybody's spouses and kids, like only young single men get to be heroes! Ugh.

Which is a shame, imo, and I don't even really know that much about them.
