drive until the rain stops, keep driving

Apparently, today I am having ALL the feelings, or at least talking about ALL the feelings about Batman, particularly in terms of who I ship him with, and also how I actually do really like him, but only when he knows he's being melodramatic and is faintly awkward about it but can't help himself, and someone else is around to take the piss (Alfred ( Read more... )

I go back and forth on Bruce hard core. Sometimes I feel like I need to get this emotionally abusive creator of child soldiers away from these precious damaged children and other times I want to ruffle his hair and bake him cookies he would refuse to eat.

Have you read the Officer Down arc? That is a really good example of Bruce acting like a complete dickwad and getting thoroughly called on his shit. It also has some Gotham Central vibes to it- I think the actions in Officer Down lead up to GC?

Have you read any good Wonder Woman? I am keeping an eye out for what to start with.

Yeah, most of my anger with him is in regard to the way he treats the kids, and I feel like he has it in him to do it right - look how well Dick turned out - but he's just so closed off all the time that he can't.

*nod nod*

That bit where he sends Barbara away so he can stand at Jim's bedside? What the fuck was that? I was so glad Alfred let him have it for that.

Exactly- he can be The Night as much as he wants to be if only he would do right by his family. A lot of the times he is at his most infuriating is when he gets so caught up in himself as this lone wolf that he forgets about all these kids he has who really, really need him. Though shit like leaving up the Case after Jason comes back because nothing has changed? What the hell, Bruce.

Ugh, I know right? His behavior was abominable but he was at least called out for being a total shit.

And more than once it's been pointed out to him that wolves are not lone hunters and neither is he, despite his protestations of working alone. Even when he first started he had Alfred. Bruce, your self-image and reality do not match! Please to acknowledge this gap and work on closing it! Generally by making your image match reality, and not vice versa!

EXACTLY. He's never been alone from the beginning. I liked that is something he realized coming back from his stint as dead/not-dead/traveling through time, that he had always had people around him supporting him that h needs just like they need him. Hopefully in the new books this carries over and he's more begrudging but secretly grateful patriach and less self-involved, myopic douchebag.

Oh, Bruce. You give me all the feelings.

It did seem like a huge character moment for him to realize that. I'm not expecting much from the reboot, though it would be nice to see him at least attempt not to fuck up with Damian too much.
