my name is might-have-been

I meant to write last night but I wandered into the capkink meme, and was pleasantly surprised that there was enough Steve/Bucky (and some gen) to distract me for a while. It's hard liking a pairing that's not the main pairing! I know, I know, the world's smallest violin is playing for me. I would also like to read some Bucky/Natasha fic, because I really like their relationship, but I haven't found much yet, so if you know of any, let me know. Basically, I have hearts in my eyes for Bucky Barnes, is what I'm saying.

Even though I didn't write, I did figure out how to fix a story that was just...wrong. and bad. and also wrong. I don't mean wrong in terms of content so much as that it was outright contra-canon in ways that bothered me, but felt necessary to make the story work, but now that I know how to make it work without that part, so I am happy. And I think it will be a better story. There's just one other thing I have to figure out. [needless to say, the complication is - and this seems to be a recurring theme recently - Tim. *shakes fist at him* Stop being so difficult! You're not even the one having sex this time!]) What I'm especially happy about is that not only did I find the perfect title, but it also came with a summary. Since I've had my list of titles to use someday, titles haven't been the headache for me that they once were, but I still loathe having to come up with summaries. Which I guess is one of the questions on that 30-day fanfic meme. Whoops. I'll just say it again when the time comes, I guess.

And since I missed yesterday, here's two questions for the price of one:

30 days of fanfic meme:

Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4

Day 5 - If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a story, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?

Sometimes I let them have their heads, and it's a better story for it. Because sometimes the story I think I'm telling isn't the story I'm actually telling. the one that comes to mind for this is "Fifteen Percent Concentrated Power of Will," which was supposed to just be Dean and Faith having random hookups and coming to care for each other over time, but instead turned out to be about Sam's freaky powers and how even if you make some poor choices, as long as you're breathing you have the chance to turn it around and make a good choice. So while the Faith/Dean stuff was hot, it was really a story about Faith telling Sam that he could make his own fate.

Sometimes, though, they really don't belong, so those bits get excised to form another story.

Day 6 - When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?

I don't really have a preference. I like writing both. I really like having female characters in both my sources and my fic. While I've been in a couple of fandoms where the presence of female characters was neglible (O11) or nonexistent (Alexander/Hephaistion), I really do prefer having women around, and when they aren't, I often try to add them in (SPN).

7 - Have you ever had a story change your opinion of a character?

8 - Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.

9 - Pairings - For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favorite pairings to write?

10 - Pairings - Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?

11 - Genre - do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?

12 - Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?

13 - Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

14 - Ratings - how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?

15 - Warnings - What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a story?

16 - Summaries - Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?

17 - Titles - Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the story? Also, if you do chaptered story, do you give each chapter a title, or not?

18 - Where do you get the most inspiration for your stories (aka "bunnies") from?

19 - When you have bunnies ideas, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?

20 - Do you ever get bunnied inspired from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?

21 - Sequels - Have you ever written a sequel to a story you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

22 - Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

23 - When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?

24 - Betaing - How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your story? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?

25 - Music - Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your story? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?

26 - What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a story?

27 - Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?

28 - Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your story?

29 - What is your current project or projects?

30 - Do you have a favorite story you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!
