trust i seek and i find in you

As you've no doubt seen everywhere else on the internet, The Boy Who Lived Forever - I was really impressed with how positive the story was. The only quibble I had was over how he talked about warnings, but I think that's more of an inside baseball kind of discussion and wouldn't have fit in a Fandom 101 piece like this one was.

I might have squeed a little that "lie low at Lupin's" got its own paragraph (I have a separate fic tag for that!). I am having lots of ~feelings~ about HP again, with DH2 coming out next week (on my birthday! No more birthdays full of HP after this, I guess. Weird. But I will be seeing it at midnight with fangirls yay!) and this morning, I was pleased to see Sirius beat out Draco in MTV's HP Olympics or whatever it is they've got going on over there. I mean, come the fuck on, people, he's SIRIUS FUCKING BLACK, OKAY? Possibly I was very CAPSLOCKY about this on tumblr last night. *cough* I have very strong feelings about Sirius Black, okay? The ridiculous and pointless manner of his death still infuriates me, as does the fact that he never got an onscreen memorial.

I think it's kind of funny how Remus and Sirius sort of swapped position in my affections over the years. I'm not one of those fans who only begrudgingly likes one half of a pairing - I have to like both characters to enjoy reading and writing a pairing, though often I will like one character a little more, and when I started writing Remus/Sirius fic, I would have said I liked Remus slightly more than I liked Sirius, but apparently being really angry on Sirius's behalf over how he was treated by canon and how it feels like nobody in canon can remember how awesome he was bumped him up in my estimation (also, Remus's natural passive-aggressiveness was on display in the last two books and did him no favors, not to mention the clusterfuck that was Remus/Tonks as written in canon. I admittedly do not like the pairing, but I think there's a world of difference between my mild distaste for it pre-HBP and how badly JKR handled it in the books - no, it doesn't preclude a prior Remus/Sirius relationship, but that's not the point. The point is it took Tonks from being a vibrant kickass character [who was coded as queer] into being a wet rag who lost all vim and vigor because she was pining for a man who didn't want her [and who was also coded as queer] and ugh, I kept waiting for it to be revealed that it was some kind of amortentia spell or that she was actually pining for Sirius, which would have made sense with OotP (I would accept grief over Sirius's death as a reason for her transformation far more easily than her being lovelorn). That scene in Arthur's hospital room never fails to make me angry, on her behalf as well as Remus's. Jesus, Molly, I love you but STFU. And now I'm lost in the parentheticals here so I'm just going to close it out. But, uh, this isn't the place to tell me you think JKR did a great job with the Remus/Tonks romance, because no.)

I've been wondering what to write for my birthday, because I don't think any of the wsip I've got are actually going to be finished in time, but maybe now I have talked myself into writing some Sirius/Remus, for old times' sake. I honestly don't think I'll ever have an OTP in quite the same way as them. They make my heart hurt so much with their constant tragic endings. *sniffle*

Speaking of my birthday, last night I had a lovely birthday dinner with dotfic, innie_darling, and tenaciousmetoo. I also walked from the office to the restaurant, which would have worked a bit better if I'd actually gone all the way to Hudson St. down here, instead of walking the whole way up Varick/7th Avenue S., because it meant I got really confused once I hit Christopher St. (which is where I'd have gotten off the subway if I'd taken it) and had to walk a few extra blocks to figure out where I was. The West Village continues to be my geographical nemesis within the city. If I'd just gone straight up Hudson, I could have avoided all of that. Still, it was a nice walk, though not perhaps, best undertaken in a new pair of sandals. I didn't get any blisters, though, so it's all right.
