Remix Redux 2011: Love Potion No. 9

Signups are open!

What you need to know:

Deadlines and minimums

Date for signups closing: March 19

Date for stories due: April 23

Date archive opens: May 1

Date author names are revealed: May 8

there are some changes this year - most importantly, there will be no extensions - so please read carefully!

Stories must be a minimum of one thousand words--we can see the word counts on AO3 now, so if you fudge it, we will know, and we will come after you. Or, you know. Assign a pinch hitter to cover your story.

There will be no official extensions this year; if the deadline passes, and we haven't received a story from you, we'll automatically send out a pinch hit. That said, you are still more than welcome to post your completed story if it's finish before the archive opens.

If you have to drop out, please default on the archive.

If you don't turn in a completed story and you don't let us know about it, you won't be allowed to play in future remixredux challenges.

What you need to play

You must be willing and eligible to be remixed in at least one qualifying fandom.

To be eligible to be remixed in a fandom, you must have written:

at least 5 500 word permitted stories in that fandom, or
at least 7 100 word permitted stories in that fandom, or
some combination of the above (I.E.) 4 500 word permitted stories and 3 100 word permitted stories in that fandom

When determining your eligibility remember the following categories of stories must be excluded from your story counts:

crossovers
works in progress
any previous remixes you've written--that goes for remixes you might have written for other remix challenges, and not just this one
co-written stories, unless you and your co-writer have signed up together as a single participant
safe story (story you love too much to have anyone else remix. You don't have to designate a safe story, and you only get to designate one, so choose carefully!)

Other requirements

Your stories must be accessible--no locked LJ/DW posts, please.

You don't need to have your own website, but you must have an easily navigable index of links to your work. LJ memories or tags are fine.

You must have an AO3 account. If you need an invitation, please comment here with an email address and we will send you one.

Signing up

List of qualifying fandoms (see signup form)

Remember, you must offer to write in at least one qualifying fandom for which you are eligible to be remixed.

You can offer to be remixed in up to seven fandoms, but you can only request to write in five.

You can include non-qualifying fandoms in your optional tags, but there's no guarantee of matching on them.

Co-writers can sign up as a single participant.

Please read the signup instructions carefully. It's complicated! there are step-by-step instructions here. (That post is from last year but it remains correct in all the important ways, though details might have changed.)

Like Santa, check your signup twice. It's difficult for us to rejigger the matching if you discover you've gotten something you didn't mean to ask for.

Matching

Matching is based only on fandom, not character and/or pairing, so you shouldn't sign up if you know for certain there's a pairing/character you would rather lose some vital body part than write.

You do not have to write in the fandom you're matched on; you can remix any story of your remixee's that catches your eye, provided it isn't a safe or co-written story.

And finally, remixing rules

You can change anything but the following:

pairing (you can background a pairing, or make a pairing story gen, but no hetifying a slash story, slashifying a het story, or substituting the pairing of the story for your own OTP, please and thank you..)
essential plot points (this does, of course, require a certain amount of judgment about what essential means)

You cannot remix a story that has been:

designated as your remixee's safe story
written for any previous remix challenge
co-written, unless your remixee has signed up with that co-writer
listed as a work in progress by your remixee
