and a conversation about nothing

All the news that fits...

Global: My thoughts are with everyone dealing with the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
glass_icarus has informational links and
kerri has links to places you can donate.

Familial: They're going to do the thoracentesis on Monday, when her INR number is lower than it is now (they're taking her off coumadin for the weekend, apparently). It's an outpatient procedure and she should be home afterwards if everything goes well. *crosses fingers*

Financial: I got a call yesterday from BEMC about some weird charges on my credit card - someone tried to make a MORTGAGE PAYMENT with my Mastercard WTF?! - so after confirming that I did not try to make a mortgage payment on a house I do not own, nor did I sign up for some kind of internet people-finder thinger, they canceled the card and are sending me a new one. Whew. The funniest part about this was on Wednesday, I was talking to a co-worker about how diligent the banks are these days about calling you about suspicious charges, and I was like, "So far, whenever they've called, I've been like, 'no, that was me.'" Weird, right? But I'm glad they caught it and I'm off the hook for random weird purchases I did not make.

Shopping:
tenaciousmetoo discovered a French press that is advertised as an iced coffee maker, so I've ordered it (and a cheapass coffee grinder that I will probably regret even before it arrives), with one of my gift certificates. I'm sure I'll keep you updated. Whether I actually grind my own coffee... who knows? I am not a coffee snob (I would totally buy Cafe Bustelo if I could find a decaf version), and even if I were, I'm fundamentally lazy, so we'll see how it goes. (and maybe I'll find regular ground coffee that works fine! It could happen!)

Speaking of iced coffee, I don't know if I ever talked about the clean bottles I bought last summer - I use one for water at home, and I think it's awesome, because the bottom comes off! You can clean the whole thing! And regular sized ice cubes fit in the mouth! And I was using one for bringing iced coffee to work, but ugh, the coffee started tasting really bad, no matter how much I scrubbed and cleaned the bottle. So last week, I bought a Klean Kanteen (and a teeny tiny ice cube tray so I can have ice in it), and so far, the coffee has tasted much better, and the bottle doesn't smell funny. We'll see if that keeps up after a few months. (Also, I finally gave in and bought a bottle brush. Sigh.) (I use my awesome OTW water bottle for cold water at work. Look, I have high maintenance beverage needs, okay? They're talking about doing away with paper cups and buying a mug for every employee here at NNP, since it will not only be greener but cheaper, but I don't know if that will actually happen. Paper cups will be for visitors only. I envision this not going over well with the majority of staff, but what are you gonna do?)

Also on the shopping tip, I got a $10 coupon from King Arthur Flour for filling out a survey, so I finally placed the order that I'd had open in a tab all week, minus the expensive and unnecessary items. So that worked out well, too.

Man, it's like all consumerism all the time up in here. I'm really not that much of a spendthrift, I swear.

Fannish: TROY, TROY, THE WONDER BOY WON FANDOM MARCH MADNESS! YAY! I especially like how much of a lovefest the whole thing was, especially in the final round.

Also, Fringe is new tonight! YAY!

Writing: I stayed up way too late last night writing:

I'm not a sucker so I don't need a bodyguard
Batman: The Animated Series/Angel the Series; Cordelia Chase, Bruce Wayne; pg; 2,935 words
Cordelia's been in the game long enough that she can spot a secret identity from a mile away.

Who better than Cordelia Chase for the role of Batman's personal assistant? I mean, she's already trained for it under another billowy coat king of pain, right? I enjoyed writing this so much (Cordy! I still miss you so!) and I'm thrilled other people enjoyed it too.

Food: Now, I need to go have lunch.
