I have a feeling Batman tries to avoid Martha because she tries to mother him when he can't. I can just imagine her telling him to help while she's making cookies and they can chat about what's going on in his life and his extreme DO NOT WANT reaction, but he can't be mean because even he's not that much of a hardass.
