come robining with us. it is most delightful!

So I've been listening to We Want War* by These New Puritans quite a bit recently, and I've found it a weirdly unsatisfying listening experience. It starts out fantastic - all driving beats and ominous chanting - but somewhere around the 3:30 mark (it's about 7 minutes long), it changes, becomes something else, and I imagine that's what people who like it, like about it, but I feel like it's a huge bait and switch. I feel like I was promised a soon-to-be classic barnburner of a dance floor favorite and then it goes all trance-y and questioning. I don't know. It definitely reminds me of the feeling of being on the dance floor at the end of the night, after rounds of shots and hours of dancing, sweaty and swaying and occasionally lounging on the speakers and letting the bass vibrate through my whole body and lull me into a dozy, satisfied languor. But I still feel like the second half of the song doesn't live up to the driving promise of the first half. The follow-through doesn't match the setup or something.

*I make no guarantees about that youtube link - I don't have the song uploaded and I can't watch videos at work, so hopefully it is actually the right thing.

Bela was on Chuck last night. I was glad that she wasn't evil from the get-go, but I guess Chuck's peptalk didn't have the result he'd have liked. *snerk* Mostly, I enjoyed Sarah and Casey shooting people.

I didn't see the credits, so I was not expecting Adrian Pasdar on Castle last night. I was amused at the Serenity reference. I think Firefly will always be the true show of my heart. I don't really have much else to say.

I also watched Hawaii Five-0 and even though I still find Steve off-putting (though it helps to not take him seriously), I'm kind of amazed at how married the show lets him and Danny be. That scene where Dane Cook invites him to stay for family dinner - how it's set up, and how Danny basically reaches over and holds his hand - that was a "welcome to the family, brother-in-law" setup.

Mostly, though, I spent yesterday watching season 1 of Community, which I enjoyed a lot. It doesn't really make me laugh out loud, but I spent most of the time cooing and making heart-eyes at Abed. (Now I'm really sad Danny Pudi didn't get cast as Peter Parker.) I also really like Britta and Annie and Shirley and Troy. I suppose I don't hate Jeff, though I was certainly predisposed to it at the beginning, and Pierce hits all my embarrassment squicks, which I'm sure he's supposed to, but ugh. He doesn't even seem to have the occasional sweetness of Michael Scott to make up for it, but that could just be me projecting my Chevy Chase issues.

Speaking of, I've heard rumors that there's talk of rebooting Fletch, and I think that if they do so, they should cast Aldis Hodge as Fletch. Because I think he would be PERFECT.

Lastly, I reblogged this on tumblr, but since it makes me happy, I'm linking to it here, as well: the Teen Titans all dress up as Robin while he's away. So adorkable.
