We went to the hospital last night and my mother was up and sitting in a chair. She's cranky and in pain (they've given her a heart-shaped pillow to clutch to her chest to help with the pain, along with some good drugs), but she looks good. The doctor is pleased with the results of the surgery. She's being moved out of ICU and I imagine they'll ( Read more... )

at least the family member can see that the health care people get the information that the patient "didn't want to bother them with."

Believe me, my father's got that covered. *snerk*

But yeah, we're going to meet with the care coordinator, the physical therapist, and a social worker before she's discharged, to get the skinny on home visiting etc., so I will definitely be keeping track of that info.

a lot of employers are decent about allowing work at home when there's a family crisis,

Oh, my bosses are being totally awesome, but I'd like to first use the PTO I have, you know? Especially since it's the end of the year, and will be renewing itself come January.

When my dad had his bypass, they gave him an actual teddy bear for that. I don't know if it helped him, but the cuteness factor of him asleep in the chair with his teddy bear helped me
