Someone made me some icons (!!!) and that was one of the scans they used. Look at them! ♥ I am not quite sure how I ended up shipping this, but by god, I apparently ship it hard. *facepalm*
Like, Batman curing Joker's brain tumor and getting him off death row ridiculous. At one point, Dick beats him to death, then gives him CPR.
WTF? though in Under the Hood, Jason beats the Joker and then has him tended to so he can have Batman kill him. Which I must say was a bit of a WTF? for me, as well. I mean, I get it, metatextually? But yeah, I can see how it's problematic in-text.
there's also the one with Jason simultaneously kicking Dick in the balls and punching Tim in the jaw, but you really want to see that one as big as possible
Every middle child's dream, I imagine. *snerk*
Is that the one where he gets the veterinarians to fix Joker up because the mob docs won't touch him?
Yes. And honestly, I mean, I get that he wanted Batman to do it for him, but it made a lot more sense in the movie where he just beats him right there before Batman shows up, instead of beating him up, getting him better and then setting up the whole plan. I mean, really.
Have you seen the teenage sidekick he had for a couple of issues? I'm not crazy about Jason's characterization but they have some wonderful scenes together. Jason really wishes he had a sidekick.
I read about it on Wikipedia, though there were no details, just that he had a teenage girl sidekick. Also something about how he's trying to rehab his image so he tweets about his crime-fighting adventures. I swear, I did not stop laughing
( ... )
See! I don't even KNOW what to do with that! It's so wacky that I can't actually accept it as canon!
how Bruce dyed his hair when he was a kid
This is another thing that is really super creepy. And also that I feel like rejecting, because WHY WOULD HE KEEP DYING HIS HAIR AS AN ADULT? So his hair is black as far as I'm concerned. It's black when he first meets Batman, so I don't even know!
I think that's mostly my response to hearing about comics canon: WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN!!!
it goes down so much smoother if you look at the whole thing as a very mild AU written mainly for the author's personal amusement.
Heh.
Right now, I'm mostly just taking the animated version of UtRH as my canon and everything else as interesting to know but not necessary if I don't like it.
The later scenes between Dick and Jason are just played like two guys who know all of each other's buttons, and deal poorly with not having Bruce to orient themselves against.
Interesting, because even though they apparently didn't really spend a lot of time together before Jason died, I can still imagine that to be true, simply because of their roles and probable insecurities resulting from that.
They also have a scene that's a very direct reference to a famous one between Bruce and the Joker, which is...also very interesting.
I was poking around somewhere reading and someone said that Red Hood is Nightwing's nemesis, which, I don't know if that's true? but it would make the parallel more on the nose relevant.
The parallel in that case (one of them anyway) was Batman offering to help a rival go straight, and the antagonist saying, not without some regret, that it's too late (the side-by-side scans and some discussion of this question are here). It's more like they held the same relative positions in a vaguely paralleled story than that Jason and Joker have all that much in common.
*nod*
That's part of what I find interesting - Jason knows what lines he's crossed and how there's no going back. What I haven't decided yet is how much he realizes that the no going back part is as much on him (probably more!) as it is on Bruce and Dick et al.
That reminds me, I need to finish my Red Hood costume meta post. 'Cos it's not like I'm moving tomorrow or starting a new job or anything...
hee! Good luck with everything! And I'll be interested in reading the post when you finally make it.

-I know comics are not necessarily your thing, but you might like Winick's current Jason mini.
Maybe once it's done and collected in a trade.
-Ahaha, the hyena assassin. I forgot all about her.
Seriously! And they're checking her out from behind! WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN!
but that panel of Jason crying and pounding on the inside of his coffin just kills me.
*nod nod*
And he's calling for Bruce. Jesus, that's heartbreaking.
