i don't owe him nothing

I spent today -- and it was a LONG DAY -- at the NY City Council Committee on Health budget hearing, and wow, they - the City Council and the public - really do not like the Commissioner of Health. They hammered him for a couple of hours over certain cuts and expenditures. It was brutal. He was mostly calm, but at one point he got a little snippy, and the council members were not having with that. It was pretty funny. I do not envy him, though I maybe kinda sorta developed a little crush on him, for remaining mostly calm under fire.

Otoh, they seem to really like the head of the HHC, even though he didn't have any better news for them.

They were supposed to start at 10:30, and I got there around 9:45, because I'd never been to City Hall before, and I wasn't sure exactly how to get inside (or even which big stately building it actually was, though I guess being in the center of City Hall Park was a big clue). The room the hearing was in was occupied until 10, which meant that it was really occupied until about 10:20, and then they had to break it down (there was a breakfast) and then reset it, so the hearing didn't start until about 10:45, which isn't horribly off schedule, but then things started backing up, and the grilling of the health commissioner took forever. And there were, like, two five minute breaks, and no eating allowed in the room (for the peons - the council members ate while they listened), and I didn't feel like pulling out my sandwich and crinkling the foil while there were presentations going on anyway. I only even got up to pee once, after about eight hours of sitting.

After all the official presentations were done (there were only three - the chief medical examiner was first), they moved us into a larger room so the public could speak. There were a lot of people who'd signed in to speak - the budget is really cutting into healthcare, and there is apparently a dental program in city schools that is being cut, and people were really up in arms about it, not without good reason. Though I don't think they needed fifteen separate people to offer testimony to the city council about it, not when that part of the day didn't even start until 4:45. They were only allowed two minutes apiece, but of course they all went over by a little (and one guy, for a whole lot), so I didn't get out of there until 6:20.

Considering all I did all day was sit in an uncomfortable chair in a really cold room and take notes, I am exhausted.

Life: "5 Quarts"

Hey, it's that guy! He was the coffee shop guy on Felicity!

"I am sitting down!"

"What about me? Am I gonna die soon?" "What is the upside of asking that question?"

"Everything's connected." Aw, Reese. The FBI wants you to pump Charlie for info! And Charlie is asking Bodner to find out what they want from you. I really, really hope you two have a heart-to-heart and get on the same page re: the conspiracy.

The melon and the icicle! *dies*

Aw, Ted and his daughter! And the baby's name is Ted! I laughed hard at Ted breaking down into tears over that.

Ahahahaha! The party's in the morgue. I love this show!

Ted! Confronting his daughter's baby daddy!

She has a fake morgue in her second apartment! Bwahahahahahaha! Five quarts of blood. "Bad relationships." "Guess this was one of them."

"You can't make life."

Oh, man, that was cool, with the flash. How'd she do that? I am even kind of digging Gabrielle Union. She's no Dani Reese, but she's amusing.

I love that Reese and Crews are sure they know the truth about each other, that they trust each other. That she's listening to his Zen tape now, too. Bwah! But oh, no, who did she just get into a van with? That is not going to end well for her, I bet.

I would swear I know that song playing at the end, but I can't identify it. Sigh. Stupid mushy brain.

Now I am going to bed. Maybe I can counteract the whole, "Wake up at 4am and stay awake for two hours" thing that's been going on all week. Sigh.
