- Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose! Or, in other words, NBC brokered a deal with DirecTV and Friday Night Lights will get a season 3.
- i just watched BSG Exodus 1&2 and man, it made me cry. SO AWESOME. SO HEARTBREAKING. I still can't figure out why they made the three main leaders of the resistance cylons, though. I mean, I can come up with some reasons, but it just seems like a really odd narrative choice. Kara and Kasey break my heart. And also Adama's reunion with Tigh, and Tigh's "Not everyone." Man. *sniffle* I wonder if Ellen will turn out to be the final Cylon. That's just. *shakes head* There's such a thing as overdosing on irony, but it would tie up her story rather neatly. I think the next one I will watch is "Unfinished Business." I'm not sure anything in between is really worth it; possibly I need to rewatch Kara cutting her hair, but I am not sure I could take Adama being mean to her first. Oh, and also, you know what made me cry? Watching the Galactica jump into atmo on New Caprica. How fucking BADASS and AWESOME is that? That whole sequence just kills me.
- sophia_helix had an interesting post today about sexy underwear, in life and in fic, and it made me think about that scene in "Beggars," which is retold from girl!Sam's POV in "Blonde on Blonde" where she dresses up in what even Dean describes as kind of trashy red lace lingerie to try to be more like what she believes he wants her to be, and that is probably the saddest, creepiest scene in the story, because it really is about her body image and insecurities and how being a teenage girl is hard enough in our society even without the added Winchester-style fucked-up-ness and incest, and how in later stories, she's always wearing cute cotton underwear or Dean's boxers and a t-shirt, because she's grown out of feeling like she has to be something she's not for him. A lot of those kinds of details show up in my (het) stories - plain cotton underwear, or women who have stubble on their legs, women who don't need to conform to some male-fantasy version of what an attractive woman is, and the men who love them - even in the later related girl!Sam stories, she's still occasionally a little exasperated about her small boobs, though she's not really insecure about it anymore (there is even going to be joking about it in the sekrit incest baby fic, if I can work it in), and Dean doesn't care one way or the other, he loves her 'cause she's Sam.
- There was fic today, written for festschrift:
Roll Up the Carpet So We Can Dance
The Office; Jim/Pam; pg; 1,742 words
Sometimes, Pam likes making Jim nervous.
I was very excited about being asked to participate, and I might even write one of the other prompts I was given, if I can figure it out (come on! the world really does need an Office/Firefly crossover), and also the original idea I had, which was too complicated for me to pull off atm, because while I feel confident writing Jim and Pam, I am completely not confident about writing Michael and Dwight, and the other idea involves Michael pretty heavily, and Ryan, and well, actual Office-style comedy, which I am not sure I can actually do. But I would like to give it a shot at some point.
- Now I am watching "Dead in the Water," and I really miss "Saving people! Hunting things! The family business!" I miss it on numerous levels, actually. Not just in the previouslies, but as Sam and Dean's mission statement. I mean, okay, right now Dean is in need of saving, so that takes priority, but overall, I think I'd like a little less mytharc and a little more MOTW. They can pack just as much brotherly banter and emoporn into MOTW eps, and there could be more saving people! hunting things! Also, I am still waiting for my ORGAN STEALING episode. Sigh.
- I am hoping to get back in the swing of writing again. The past two months have been...difficult in that regard, but I feel like my mojo is coming back. I hope.
