Dude! You're not poking her with a stick!

I have the best co-mods ever on remix_redux. I will be saying that a lot in the coming weeks.

Today is the day where you panic and I laugh. (I don't start panicking until late next week, when I am still missing stories and my pinch hits aren't written yet.)

Of course, this would all be ever so much easier if LJ were moving faster than a drunk slug in a traffic jam.

The thing I am having a hard time figuring out is why so many people just do not seem to get the concept of tagging so that there is the category identifier: and then the specific, e.g., fandom: harry potter, character: remus lupin, character: sirius black, pairing: remus lupin/sirius black etc.

Both parts - the 'fandom' and 'character' part as well as the specific name or pair of names (first and last, why is that so hard to understand? There are many Jacks and Logans and Sams in many fandoms, and they all need to be identified clearly! For characters who don't have last names, well, that's tricky, and WHERE OH WHERE is the onscreen canon giving Faith's last name as Lehane? No, seriously, where is that? And speaking of last names, I know many of you are familiar with Dark Angel and I am not, beyond what I've gleaned from the old flist. So, Max and Alec - do they have last names? If so, can someone tell me what they are so I can edit the tags appropriately?) are necessary, for easy sorting! This way I can go down the list and see what I've got. This is especially important in the "original author" and "remix author" categories, not for your purposes, but for mine. This way I can easily tease out who has posted and who has not. And when the time comes to make all the entries public, this way I can log in as each sockpuppet and easily sort the stories by sockpuppet name to unlock them.

This is not rocket science!

Tonight, after the deadline, I will copy the list of "original author" tags from the tag list, and I will check it off against the list of participants and then I will see who has a story, who emailed me to ask for an extension, and who is a lamer who is banned from participating ever again (if I actually do this again next year, which right now is looking like a big fat NO) for bailing without notice.

And here's the thing. I have the scary poky stick (
), but I am tired of using it. If I check my list and your story is not on it, and you did not notify me of that fact ahead of time*, I am not going to chase you down. I am going to cross your name off the list and find a pinch hitter I can trust to post a story. (If there are a lot of you and I'm in a bitchy mood, I may post all your names publicly and point to you as examples of what NOT to do while participating in a ficathon. But even that may be more of my attention than you deserve.) If you get around to posting your story, that's great (though don't think it gets you off the hook if you didn't inform me you'd be late), but if not, I will still have a story for each participant.

I'm not your mother, your babysitter, or your fifth grade teacher. I am not responsible for you being a dick and bailing on your fannish commitments without notice. I don't care if your dog ate your homework or your car got hit by lightning. You ever see Goodfellas? My response is the same as Henry Hill's: Fuck you, pay me.

This does not, of course, refer to those folks who have emailed me and asked for an extension, or who had to drop out. You lot are fine.

Now I have a pinch hit to wrestle with, tags to edit, and some remixes to approve.
