*loves you and your tough, Mal-loving Zoe*

Yes. Yes, yes, and yes.

This:

Inara will always have to share Mal--with Zoe, with Kaylee, even with River now. And with Serenity.

and this:

He shakes his head again. "I don't even know what you're thinking right now," he says, looking down, away.

*that* is the kind of insight I pay you for.

This is quite high up on my list of favorite Vic fics.

(PS: check the first word of the last section - missing a possessive, I think.)

Thank you so much! I'm so glad it worked for you.

...Wait. I get paid? *g*

Wow. Thank you. Me, too, actually.

(And thanks for the correction - last minute edits are always my downfall.)

Heh. I try to be scrupulous in my punctuation in headers, so everybody knows what they're getting into. *G*

I'm so glad you read it anyway, and enjoyed it. Thank you.

That was sweet. Poor Zoe, but she and Mal can hold each other up still, that's lovely.

Thank you so much! I'm so happy it felt true to you, because I think that kind of *is* what they'd say to each other in that situation, and then Inara would either figure it out or she wouldn't.

You have the uncanny ability to bring me to tears with your words, and yet I can never figure out why. I always try to pinpoint the moment where it becomes a tearjerker, but I can never quite get it.

Maybe it was the moment where Mal tries to, but can't quite, hide the hurt at Zoe heading down to her own bunk. Maybe it was before then.

Or maybe it was the pilot episode. Because your stories feel so damn true to the series that there are times I can't think of them as separate.

If that makes any sense.
