It was bright. So bright it was blinding. He raised his hand to shield his eyes. But the brightness didn’t seem to be coming from a certain direction. It was everywhere. It was the air. There was colour as well, obnoxious colours. They were enough to give someone who had never touched a drop of alcohol in their life a hangover; a really bad one.
Rodolphus took a step forward, but nothing changed. He had gone nowhere. He took another step forward and then starting running. He stopped. He wasn’t tired and yet it felt as if he had been running for hours. He looked around him. The colours hadn’t changed. He had still gone nowhere.
There was a soft meow from somewhere off to the left of him. He turned. A cat. Well, technically it was a kitten but he didn’t really pay very much attention to the size of the damn thing. He was a few metres away but then suddenly, with one tiny step forwards, it was next to him, purring and weaving itself in and out of his legs. He frowned and tried to shake it off but as soon as he did its face contorted and it attached itself to his leg, its claws digging in deep. He swore and started to shake it more, eventually resorting to kicking it off with the other foot. It vanished as soon as it hit the floor. That was why cats and other rodents were left to Dolohov.
He sighed. The running seemed to have caught up with him. His eyes seemed to be dry. He hadn’t been blinking. The colours had begun to move. They made no shapes and yet they put pictures in Rodolphus’ head. He covered his eyes with his hand. This was insanity. This was a nightmare. This was hell.
