Megaera turned the page of the textbook she was reading religiously. The Russian coughed again. Her concentration was once again broken. She refused to look up. She completely and utterly refused. Charms, Charms, Charms. Focus on Charms, woman, Megaera was hissing at herself in her head. He is thinking about you but not in a completely bad way. Do. Not. Look. Up. Oh no. No! NO! The Russian had coughed again and this time it was accompanied by sniggering afterwards. He had a friend. Meg’s head snapped up. The textbook snapped shut.
The Russian’s friend raised an eyebrow and muttered something to the Russian. In Russian. She breathed slowly and calmly. Well, as calmly as was possible. And then she heard her name. She thought she heard her name. They were talking about her. They were talking about her. In Russian. How dare they? How could they? What were they saying? How dare they? They were laughing. She was going to faint. Her knuckles whitened as she dug her nails into the spine of the book. She wasn’t going to say anything. She wasn’t. Not in a million years.
“Care to share your little conversation?” Damn, she was talking. She couldn’t stop herself. The Russian gave the other one a mock punch in the arm and laughed something about him being disrespectful. Arching an eyebrow, Megaera gathered her things and stood. She stalked out of the library, trying not to flinch when the Russian called after her.
