Who: John Constantine - "Hellblazer Film"
What: John only has a short time left on Earth and because of this, he resents it greatly.
Slowly exhaling the cigarette gently placed between his fingertips and lips, John Constantine breathes deeply, allowing the nicotine and substances to fill his lungs and soothe a physically and mentally tense psyche. Years of being able to see things most human beings only imagined in their nightmares, was a factor John had to face every waking day of his unnatural life. It was a gift from the high and mighty lord of the universe himself and like most people given a special privilege, John neglected and abandoned this gift and sought it to be more of a curse if anything.
No one understood him and what he'd been capable of; needless to say, depression and loneliness followed down his path. A fragile human is what we all are and any physical damage to the body, when impacted enough, will easily end the suffering of living. It could be quick or it could be slow and John didn't want to stay on Earth anymore and contemplated suicide.
A mistake was made and a lesson learnt, but because of a sin condemned by the oh-so great one; John's brief trip into the hellish afterlife would soon welcome him back once his time on Earth was officially over. From the quick introduction to a purgatory for the dammed, John would see to it that he'd never visit such a place again. He spent years helping those affected by the half-breeds and sought redemption; he was trying to win himself into heaven.
But the bastard that God was, John was still declined administration and faced with the fact he would be going into the depths of hell where Lucifer and others would tear away at his soul. This realization scared the shit out of him, and it would be happening sooner than he'd want. Smoking was a way to ease the suffering he endured, no one could fully understand what he was going through, and as though John was hated more so than the rest of humanity, he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.
He was going to die and spend an eternity in a place where his soul would be destroyed after centuries of enduring pain and torture... And there was nothing he could do to stop that. All because of one mishap that occurred in the past. He wasn't an evil person. Why should he endure the punishment not deserved?
