Summary: Adam's last moments in search for the truth and the end consequences it caused him.
Adam Barnes had dug his own shallow grave and nothing could save him now. Always having an interest in the paranormal, he stepped in too far one day and meddled with entities far beyond his own world. He soon searched book after book endlessly looking for the right spell to ward off the otherworldly threats that came to him, spent hours painting the precise inscriptions, and then covered his artistic rendition with wallpaper so that visitors would never see the ancient incantations. And with all the tiresome work he'd accomplished in means to save his own soul, a part of his own conscious had told him this would never work and they'd be coming for him real soon.
His website-- dedicated to debuting and featuring stories of the unreal and supernatural-- only seemed to make them stronger. Make them appear as if he'd opened up a portal to some unknown world and release them into his own realm. But those spells in which he so wished would not only protect himself, but loved ones as well, was quickly neutralized to the true evil that hid behind the screen. There are some things that even the strongest of protection spells can't defeat, for they always find a glitch and worm their way into the system.
Something had gotten inside of Adam. Into his body, into his mind, and slowly ate away at his soul while the insanity slowly coursed through his essence like poison. Hours prior to "La Dia De Los Muertos," or "The Day Of The Dead" to those who are unfamiliar, the being inside of Adam grasped ahold of his mind and spun it widely out of control. Images, thoughts, and a series of horrible conclusions flashed painfully and rapidly while the entity gleamed with a sickening pleasure.
Be it of Adam's own doing, or the demon taking control, a single sharp-edged razor blade forcefully dug its way into soft flesh and veins as crimson poured out like a river and cascaded down his peach arms. Sudden guilt and realization was all Adam could think of as he felt his body being led to the water-filled bathtub and slowly felt his life drain away. Hours prior, he'd known what was going to become of his future, and with a last goodbye, he'd attempted to call his loved ones for one more conversation before his departure. First he called his fiancé, Chole, to say that he loved her and how sorry he was for getting involved, and then lastly his twin brother, Derek. Since being sent out to scout discoveries for the business, Adam knew Derek was out looking for a story, but when calling to apologize, there was no more time left and the phone call ended with a disturbance from the other side.
Head submerged in warm water, the plasma turning the once invisible liquid to a soft red, Adam could only hope that whatever waited for him on the other side would answer his questions about his quest in the paranormal. Somehow he knew that his existence was not over and he'd soon be returning to Earth... In some form or another. Whatever wanted him had reason for its doings in ending this life, but Adam was soon to become one of the others.
The pain from his wrists included with the suffocated lungs sent Adam's body into a quick jolt as he convulsed for one last ounce of life. His body numbed, and then there was darkness.
