So today at Brown Ledge Camp was The Event Derby! It was a one-day event with a dressage phase and a combined stadium and cross-country phase. Yesterday there were dressage and cross-country clinics, and today was the competition. Yesterday was absolutely nutty; two horses pulled shoes and one went lame, so we had to find replacement mounts for Novice riders from among our stable of 2' horses. Today went smoothly and beautifully, and the last rider finished cross-country literally about one minute before it started pouring down rain. The show was finished and we were out of the barn by 4!
I am unspeakably proud of my students and all of our LEC horses. My students won:
fifth and first in Intro
first and second in Beginner Novice
first in Novice (on Ginger!), including first after dressage
Our fabulous LEC horses stole the show: Brandon, Paris, Hawk, Roscoe, Colin, Ginger, Roulette and yes, even Oskar did the x-rails cross-country. Ginger won the Novice division and she and my student Claire could have easily taken Training if we had put her in that division.
Among my campers, Sandrine won the Novice dressage and Jian placed in Beginner Novice. Phoebe placed in the turnout competition. And, my campers won Cabin of the Week for housekeeping! Hooray for being a proud camp counselor!
