***SPOILERS FOR END OF MOVIE BEHIND THE CUT***
So in this particular version of James canon, Dom didn't wake up from the dream and he never made it home meaning that both Phillipa and James grew up without their parents. Whereas Phillipa came to the harsh realization of it sooner and was able to grieve but move on, James always held out hope. Never really understanding that his parents were gone but thinking they were somehow still around. As he got older while his subconscious still believed it to be true, he tried to bury it deep inside.
James discovered dream sharing once he was old enough to learn about it. His grandpop Miles tried to keep Phillipa and James from it seeing how it cost him his daughter and son-in-law but like their parents before them, they were hooked. Miles took Phillipa under his wing and taught her everything he knew about architecture, she was a natural. James on the other hand learned the basics and then took to another subject of learning, chemistry. He liked the science of it all and found he was good at it. So, instead of focusing on school, where his other studies drastically slipped, he found out everything he could about dream sharing and starting doing his own experiments with it.
Basically, my thoughts are that James continues to push the limits. He wants to go deeper and deeper in the dream, as deep as he can. Right now he is working on four levels of sleep. Problem is, the deeper he goes, the more dangerous it becomes. This is where his subconscious comes in to stop him. Namely, his parents. He sees them when he goes too far in the dream. Usually he tries to block them out and does so successfully (more successfully than Dom could considering he has no guilt surrounding it.) But when he gets scared, confused, nervous of upset, his parents come out completely. All those feelings where you can't help but want your parents around. I was hoping to find a Mal and Dom willing to play. I'd love for him to be able to interact with his parents!
As for the other characters. James has been able to interact with some of you and you've been understanding about it but if anyone wants to do a verse, that would be awesome! I'm sure some of them would project into the dream as well. He knows Arthur and Eames from when his parents worked with them before and I have it in my mind that if Dom didn't wake up, Ariadne would take it upon herself to tell Miles what happened and maybe even visit the kids from time to time so James would know her too. So I'm sure all of them would show up in his dreams.
For the original character, I need someone who is willing to go into the dreams with him. An Eames told him it is better to have someone there, to give him the kick and to keep him straight on what's a dream and what's not. So basically I need someone for that. I don't have any backstory figured for them. A girl would be awesome but I can work with male too. He just needs a friend to share dreams with.
