Nero is the former duke of a small, unnamed country near Italy. During the 80's, his country underwent a bloody revolution where his father was killed and his mother was forced to flee and pursue political asylum in America. His family hopes to return to their homeland one day, but it seems unlikely. Animosity still exists for the royal family, and only recently have talks of allowing the Vacantes to return have taken place, albeit without the power they once had.
Nero grew up American and has no memory of the conflict that happened when he was only an infant. He has no desire to return to his country, and in fact, hides his nationality as much as he possibly can. He's recently begun a relationship with love interest (who may be male or female) and has yet to tell them he's royalty.
The possibility of the Vacantes returning to their country seems a bit stronger these days, as the current prime minister seems interested in Enzo. The PM can be male or female, and the basis of their relationship can be platonic or romantic. Thalia wants to return under the pretense of their family retaining some sort of monarch status.
