When Heaven decided to jumpstart the Apocalypse, it wasn't without some serious planning. And like every good strategist, those "in-charge" came up with a back-up plan. sure, they were confident they'd have no problem getting their champion to take up his mantle once Lucifer was sett free; the vessel was only human after all, and humans were manipulated easily enough. But humans also possess that most obnoxious of creations: free will. they needed a fail-safe and for it, they needed something that could, in theory, control and something they wouldn't mind losing. The answer was the Nephilim.
The Nephilim of biblical times were the offspring of the Grigori and human women. These heavenly Watchers were taken by the beauty of man's daughters and sought to possess them for themselves. They taught their new-found mates, and the resulting children, forbidden knowledge. The children themselves were powerful, more than any mere man should be. Such power could not be allowed to exist on Earth. The Nephilim were declared abominations, and the order for their destruction was given. Some say they were part of the reason the God flooded the Earth in Noah's time. Others say the majority were cast into Gehenna, with a few becoming demons. No one's entirely sure anymore, because you just don't talk about the things that make God angry.
So why create a new generation of Nephilim if the last were destroyed. Well, it was simple. God was gone. He didn't care. And those who started this end-game had a powerful need for Heaven to come out on top. If things worked according to the plan, all the better; they had a loyal, disposable army for Michael to command. And do the dirty work.
The story so far...
A
chance encounter brings together Sam Winchester (
srsbusinessk) and Marla Tudor. Marla's a college student trying to escape an already complicated life when a visit from a pair of angels makes it even more complex. Sam gives her his number for any sort of trouble. And a few weeks later,
she has to use it. A vague and slightly cryptic voicemail is left on his phone, and he returns the call. She's got a stalker, of the black-eyed variety. Sam agrees to help, but on his way there,
things get worse. Her roommate's also a demon, and trying to get in. Marla's a sitting duck until he gets there, hiding behind salt lines with a lacrosse stick.
Sam makes a splashy entrance as always, and somehow manages to handle a posse of possessed college kids and a freaked out Marla. It's a mass exorcism, but not before the baddies spill the beans just a little. The word 'nephilim' gets tossed out, with the offhanded suggestion Sam asked 'his winged friend' what it means. With the cops on the way, Sam decides to take Marla out of her comfortable life for her own safety.
