So his brother is evil an on going trouble in his life. If he can make Jon's life harder, he'll do. But while Ilya and his wife Selene were separated he really got to work at trying to keep them apart. He would spend time trying to seduce Sel for himself, while trying to get his brother laid by- well anyone. Doing it by any means needed.
This is where the past fling would come in. I would love to see a woman who would be a bigoted pure blood's dream come true. So a good family background of pure blood, plus perhaps a family history of male heirs. A good job, and education, maybe sharing their views more than some do. Ilya Jon is quite open minded himself, which the family believe has been encouraged by Selene. Maybe this lovely lady is back because she's decided that Jon was the best option she's been presented with and is considering fighting for him. Or perhaps a one night drunken stand who got pregnant? Basically a little drama for Sel and Jon.
But I'm happy to plot.
