I'm straight up copying this ad from two previous ones -- the first, which I didn't start, is
here, and the second, which I DID put up early this year is
here. The group of RPers behind the original, amazing team AND the second one has sort of disappeared (heck, I did too) but I'd love to reboot the idea. Of course, if anyone from the original team shows up, that would be AMAZING, but generally let's just open this back up!
Here's the copy from the original ad:
So, Madeline Patrick is from a universe not unlike ours, except filled up to the wazoo with the paranormal and on the brink of some major scientific breakthroughs. In short: everything is a little more dangerous than you'd first expect. To the everyday citizen, the world is pretty average and safe. It's a lot like ours except more scientifically advanced by a small handful of years, so things lik brainwashing an robots aren't completely impossible -- but not so normal that there's anything more to fear than the not-so-average criminal. There's been a spike in "mysterious deaths" lately for who-knows-why, but like most sci fi/fantasy shows and/or films, the general public seems to be a bit blind to this development.
Enter the team! Part of a task force within the US, the lovely people I am requesting have been specifically assigned to be a part of the government's team of professional "cleaners." They go after supernatural threats and generally fix things when people (rogue occultists and demon summonings, teenage D&D players who accidentally call up a poltergeist of three, the occasional robot who accidentally gains sentience, etc etc) fuck up.
They tackle ghosts, demons, vampires, the odd zombie, evil witch doctors, evil people with psychic powers, the occasional mad science experiment..
Say, for example, someone dies in a mysterious way that nobody seems to be able to explain. Inevitably, this gets passed onto someone with higher authority than the local police. Say, the FBI or CIA or whatever government agency is appropriate/tickles your fancy. When THEIR team of elite agents can't figure out what went on, somebody with the appropriate level of clearance passes it along to another member of the government, who then passes it onto THIS task force. From there, it's the team's job to do two things: 1) Figure out how this person died and what killed them, and 2) figure out if this thing/person is still out there, and either kill them or neutralize them so they can bring it/him/her into custody.
Think Fringe with a bit of Supernatural and Constantine, with a dash of Hellboy thrown in, and you've got a good idea what their world is like.
The team is made up of:
- Plain old human detective black_twosugars (me!)
- Vampire krovopiitsa
- Witch hunter/researcher formula86ed
- Magician/wizard silver_n_lassos
Other ideas:
- Telepath
- Magician/occultist/demonologist
- Android
- Polymath (someone with adoptive muscle memory)
- Werewolf
- Mad scientist
- One extremely lucky fellow/lady (blessed by birth at fairies, maybe)
- Plus anyone else you have in mind?
The original post also has some headcanons in the comments by the original person behind this idea. Basically, I just want to play Patrick again, and it's hard to do so without his team to back him up.
I do sort of see Patrick as a psuedo-leader of the group, or at least the public face since he's the most LIKE the public. But he's also a bit bumbling when it comes to dealing with the supernatural shit.
Also, originally the group had been together for about two years, but I'm also up for playing as if they're only just meeting and figuring out how to get along. Let's figure this out together! I figure this team has a pretty high turn-over rate, because of... death. Or imprisonment or kidnapping to another dimension or just plain "FUCK YOU GUYS I'M LEAVING" rage-quitting. Patrick, at least, has managed to avoid all that and has been on the team for about two years. He's sort of defaulted to being leader.
I see the group as sort of having a Torchwood vibe with a mix of Parks & Rec/The Office. They deal with very serious threats and stuff, but ...there's also the issue of where the coffee filters went and that is JUST AS IMPORTANT.
