As for setup? I am totally open to anything! I've started making a musebox/comm thingymebob so threads are nice and neat and together and whatnot.

And I'm totally up for either/or of the above suggestions. Poor dazed Sam will have to deal with a very suspicious Cas - still, rather suspicious Cas than gun-happy Dean, right!
