Sounds interesting, but one little quibble here: Lily was a Muggleborn witch, and Severus is a halfblood, so April couldn't possibly be a Pureblood.

That is a very good point. I just thought of it as you commented. Let me try again and I'll edit the post.

She thinks she's a Pureblood because no one knows differently to tell her and she's in Slytherin. Dumbledore, for all his wisdom, isn't about o set her straight. He's the only one who knows who both her parents are.

I'm gonna say younger, just to be evil to poor James. She is, in essence, his half-sister. As you can see, I need to give more thought to some areas of the plot... *Sad face*

Hmm, yeah you may want to think through the timeline on that, since she dies a little over a year after Harry was born. She'd have to have an affair right after popping out Harry.

And does James know about her being pregnant again? It'd be pretty hard to hide, I'm guessing. If he does did he think she was his? And if that's the case, how'd she end up in an orphanage?

Here's how I worked it: James started to lose some respect for Lily right after Harry was born. Lily was distraught and turned to Severus for comfort. Soon after, she fell pregnant. James thought the baby was his, but when Aprilynne was born and looked nothing like him, he began to ask questions.

Lily was forced to confess to having the affair and James was furious. He'd always hated Snape and this just cemented it. He took April to the orphanage himself, despite Lily's begging. He always felt bad for what he did, but he convinced himself it was for the best. Lily never really forgave him but stayed with him for Harry's sake.

I really hope this makes sense and isn't too crappy a storyline.

Why do the Slytherins hate her?

Just wondering, since I have a Millicent Bulstrode (not this journal) who I can offer for interaction, and I write her as hiding that she's a halfblood. :)

The Slytherins hate her because no one can prove her lineage. They don't know who her parents are, therefore, they can't be sure she's a Pureblood. It is against everything they were raised to believe to associate with a half-blood or a M*dblood, even unknowingly.

Aprilynne would love to interact with Millicent, just by the way :D

Totally understandable! Well, here's Millicent, and I was thinking they might get along in secret, kind of in the mindset of "well, there's got to be a reason she's in Slytherin, hasn't there?" But at this point, she'd totally deny it if anyone asked, and probably threaten them for good measure, otherwise they might start getting suspicious about her too. But I'm just tossing out ideas, and if you had anything in mind, go right ahead - working out the kinks beforehand is always a good thing!

I love that! So, they're like secret friends, but Millicent would deny deny deny if anyone asked. Aww, poor April! :D Oh well. Love. It.
