Author's Note: This pre-series TAC one-shot was the product of having no clue how to write Trevor and Brian interacting together, which was slightly problematic given the upcoming chapters. So, I wrote this piece in an attempt to sort that out so that I could attempt to sort chapter nine out. No spoilers for TAC. Obviously this is sort of Brian/Trevor, so if you fear that may be an issue for you, you may want to skip this one. If you're not afraid to give it a try, though, I think you may be pleasantly surprised.
"So."
Exhaling the drag off his cigarette, Brian shifts his head on his pillow to look over at Trevor. He expects to be met by squinting, green eyes-the little fucker is blind as a bat-but instead finds Trevor looking up at the ceiling. He's not usually so reflective after they fuck, and it unnerves Brian, as much as he bitches about his usual snarky bedmate suffering from E-induced giggles.
This feels a hell of a lot like they're calling it off again. Brian wouldn't mind so much, except it's too much of a hassle. Trevor's not annoying like most of his tricks, and he's usually willing whenever Brian wants to hook-up. While Brian never cared for easy before, it does have its perks now, especially when Kinnetik is pulling him in six goddamn directions.
"So?" Brian mimics, cocking an eyebrow.
"You kissed me, Brian."
Ah.
Admittedly, Brian had hoped that Trevor wouldn't have noticed that slight addition to tonight's performance. It wasn't supposed to be a big fucking deal, even though it was to some degree. The last time he'd kissed someone was almost a year ago. And unsurprisingly, that person had been Justin.
Justin's moved on, though. It had taken a while to break himself of rules that he'd been playing by for years, but tonight Brian felt ready. He doesn't want to be shackled to a man that he has no hope of ever being with again. He'll always love Justin, sure. Loving him sure as hell doesn't mean wasting away though.
"Yeah, I guess I did."
Brian glances over at him, waits for some response. Trevor's expression is blank for a minute before his nose scrunches up and brow furrows. Brian watches him shift in bed a little, uncomfortable. He wonders what's going through Trevor's mind, wonders whether he's just made some terrible mistake. Is the kid going to fall in love with him now? Is he going to blow things way out of fucking proportion? Brian can feel himself closing up, anticipating it.
"It's weird."
While he probably shouldn't, Brian laughs. Trevor's suddenly on the borderline between pissed and baffled, maybe rightfully so. It's not as if Brian can help it though. He's sure that Trevor probably didn't mean it in a bad way, but out of all the fucking responses he thought he might get, it's weird wasn't one of them. He's Brian fucking Kinney, for fuck's sake. Thousands of men have wanted to kiss him, and he tries it for the first time in years with the one fucking guy that only half appreciates it.
"Why are you laughing at me, dickwad?" Trevor asks, shoving him a little.
"I've never had anyone tell me that before. Usually they're too busy begging me to fuck them. You're definitely a first."
"I didn't mean your kissing was weird. You're alright-"
"Alright?" Brian asks, indignant. "What do you mean I'm fucking alright?"
"Look, your cock was up my ass and I was getting ready to shoot my load. In the big scheme of things, the kiss was nice but not exactly what I was astounded by in the moment. I'm sure you'll be able to collect your wounded pride and get over it."
Brian snorts, then takes another drag off his cigarette. "Remind me again why the hell I invite you over here."
"Because I'm easy and you're a size queen?" he offers.
True. Those aren't the only reasons, but they definitely help in a big way. Trevor's hot, fun to be around-two things that worried Brian before. It's a pretty deadly combo, something that he had noticed about Justin after a little time had passed. It's not exactly the same, but it's not like what he has with the guys either. Whatever it is, it makes Trevor stand out from the masses of other tricks. And when he'd decided to give up the rules, part of him knew he was going to break them with Trevor for that very reason.
"I just don't want things to get strange between us," Trevor says.
"If it freaks you out that much, I'll stop."
"No, it's not that." Trevor looks away from him, begins biting his nails out of nervous habit. "I'm just…not looking for a boyfriend right now. Or, you know, anytime in the foreseeable future…"
"One kiss and you think I want to walk down the aisle with you?"
"I just want to let you know where I stand because I never know where you do." Trevor turns back to him. "What I do know is that you've never kissed me before tonight, and we've fucked plenty of times and had plenty of opportunities. I figured there was probably a reason why. That's all."
"I'm not looking for a boyfriend either, Trevor."
His relief is apparent to Brian, and Brian's not sure whether he should be happy or insulted. He guesses happy because at least they want the same thing out of this, unlike where he started with Justin. But Justin was just a kid, so it's not fucking fair to compare the two of them. Not to mention that he really needs to stop doing that-comparing every guy he fucks to Justin, emotional attachment withstanding or mindless fuck.
But the thing is, while he's not looking for a boyfriend, he wouldn't mind landing a fuck buddy. Sometimes it's a real fucking hassle to be working late at Kinnetik and have to go to Babylon and sort through the trolls to find someone that's fuckable. If he already had someone on hand, it'd save him the trouble. And Trevor's a safe bet-good in bed but not interested in much more.
"I wouldn't mind you hanging around though."
"Hanging around?"
"As someone I fuck regularly," Brian clarifies. "Not a boyfriend, but an honor still."
Trevor laughs. "Arrogant son of a bitch."
"So what do you say?"
His laughter quiets down, and he rolls onto his side to face Brian. He reaches out to touch Brian's cheek, but almost pokes him in the eye, not that Brian's not fucking used to it. The next time he takes up with someone he's going to make sure the guy has decent vision without his glasses on.
"Sure, why not."
Brian rolls his eyes. The kid really doesn't get it, does he? Not only is he going for someone with better eyesight next time, but he's also going to find someone who has a better understanding of just who the hell he is. This is getting embarrassing.
"Maybe we should establish some rules just so there's no misunderstandings?" Trevor suggests.
"Rules?" Brian pokes his tongue in his cheek, raising his brow. "Like?"
"Like…we can fuck whoever the hell we want. No hard feelings."
"As long as you're doing it safely."
Trevor looks at him like he's just said the most obvious thing ever. "I don't need a safe sex lecture from you, Brian. My parents made it traumatizing enough the first time that I'm permanently scarred by all the details and photos."
"Alright, anything else?"
"Yeah," Trevor says, moving closer. "I don't want to fuck around at the office. The couple times we did it were nice, but our quickies aren't too quick and I have a lot of work to get done. Plus, it's not professional."
"Do you have to take the fun out of everything?"
"Brian, I'm serious."
"Everyone knows we're fucking."
"This is really important to me. I want to be treated seriously and with respect by my colleagues, and I'm already compromising that by fucking the boss."
Brian pulls him up against him, Trevor's head beneath his chin. His fingers trail down Trevor's spine as he considers it. Half the enjoyment of fucking Trevor at the office is the thrill of getting caught, but he does bring up a fair point. While Brian's not going to suffer for their arrangement, Trevor might start getting shit from the others, which is the last thing Brian wants.
"Alright, on one condition."
"What's that?"
"I can fuck you anytime before or after hours at the office."
"If kinky office role play is really that important to you, fine."
Trevor lifts his head then, brushes his lips against Brian's hesitantly. Unsure, Brian kisses back lightly. It still feels forbidden somehow, but he's got to get over this. As Trevor presses against him a little more, Brian does the same, Trevor's stubble scratching his jaw. Brian tries to stop himself from thinking that this feels nothing like what he'd experienced with Justin. And it's hard, but somehow he manages well enough.
"One more thing," Trevor says against his lips.
"Hmm?"
"If you ever call me baby or any other stupid pet name, I'll break your fingers."
Brian chuckles. He can appreciate the sentiments, and he's fairly certain that Trevor knows the same applies to him. There will be no terms of endearment in this arrangement. Not now. Not ever.
