I think you really took the most probable route with Gus. If you don't mind me rambling a bit, I think that the show didn't put enough emphasis on Brian's negative experiences with being gay. I don't know if you see it the same way, but the writers seemed to be quite keen on showing Brian as this "out and proud" example to the gay community, a person who doesn't give a shit about what other people think of him and who doesn't accept society's rules of living. This was always the most important part of his characterization, the part that defined him. And I think that the viewers too often forget about the fact that Brian did not come out to his parents for nearly thirty years, more than that, the only thing that made him do this was: a) his father terminal illness and much convincing from his friends and b) um, pure accident, when his mother kind of walked in on him and Justin. Despite all his talk about screwing everyone else and not caring what people think, Brian is strangely conformist when it comes to facing his bigot parents or business partners (at least some of them). The way he talks about straight people also suggests that he had pretty hard time being gay. So it would make total sense for him to subconsciously wish that his son would be spared the same pain. Basically, what I was trying to say: the show itself does not focus enough of some aspects of Brian's life and it's up to the viewers to remember what Brian's life for the most part must have been like, taking into account all the clues we're given. In some ways Brian is much more repressed (and less brave) than Justin :)

I totally get it about Delaney, that's why I'm all conflicted about her :) But she's an interesting character I'm just dying to meet!

I guess that it is not mandatory for a person to not make the same mistake twice, as far as the Kip/Trevor issue is concerned. I'd totally buy it if Brian simply got to know Trevor enough to trust, but I'd also expect his friends (mostly Mikey and Ted and Cynthia) to warn him off and generally worry about Brian's office non-romance. If Brian felt lonely and unhappy after his relationship with Justin fallen apart, it might make sense for him to somehow substitute Justin with someone else, even if on different terms and while being in denial about the meaning of the whole ordeal.

Most OCs are dear to a writer, since they're something they created from scratch, so I totally get it :) But from the glimpse of Trevor we got, I assume he's a really nice guy and if that's true, than I'll be very sorry to see him hurt :( I hate emotional triangles with a passion for a reason - someone always gets hurt. And it makes me sad :( Still, I've read below that Justin and Trevor are going to meet and that makes all the heartbreak worth it :) Of course, it wouldn't be the first time Justin was jealous of Brian but it would be the first time he was jealous of Brian like that. I mean, it's different with some nameless trick and different with a person Brian actually likes and sleeps with more than once :) Sooo I can't wait for that confrontation :)

Rambling is always welcome and encouraged!

I really do agree with you on the whole Brian thing. His portrayal in the story is a bit skewed to highlight how much he doesn't give a damn if he's gay and how proud he is. But, as you pointed out, he obviously had some serious hang-ups about it as well. I wish we'd gotten a little more of his back story as far as that goes. We know he was bullied by some jocks at school. Actually, I'm curious to know how Claire found out. I wish their relationship would have been explored a bit more as well.

The Justin/Brian/Trevor (as in Justin/Brian, Brian/Trevor, lol) dynamic is an interesting one imo. I've really just started to figure out Brian and Trevor's history as well as flesh out Trevor, and it's been pretty funny. Trevor is a lot like Justin in some manner of speaking and a lot like Brian in others. I think it's those Brian attributes that draws Brian into considering him as someone he fucks more than once in the first place.

The next three or four chapters focus pretty heavily around how Trevor affects Brian/Justin. You'll learn more about Trevor, see Trevor and Justin interact, and ultimately find out how Justin is going to deal with this surprising turn of events.
