NON-DOMINANT HAND ART INFO
My Mom shared with me a lot of information on the woman who wrote the art therapy book that we were working from on Maui!
She also gave me some info about her teacher. I'm copying, pasting and linking the info here, for anyone who is interested in looking into it further. My Mom and I both HIGHLY recommend this work!!! This information/ new way of seeing/being is LIFE SAVING & TRANSFORMING!
"Lucia Capacchione (www.luciac.com) pioneered non-dominant hand drawing. She has written many essential books on inner healing through espressive arts. The one that focused most on non-dominant drawing was this book wriiten in 1988: "THE POWER OF YOUR OTHER HAND - A course in channeling the inner wisdom of the right brain." The cover is decorated with this non-dominant hand message:"I am your inner child, artist,writer,healer, and teacher." Capacchione's 2001 book, "THE ART OF EMOTIONAL HEALING - Over 60 simple exercises for exploring emotions through drawing, painting, dancing, writing, sculpting, and more", is one that I use frequently with the Hospice patients, families, and the bereaved. It is a compendium of many of the processes she utilized in her previous books, including non-dominant-hand drawing.
The book we worked from while in Maui was: "DRAWING AS A SACRED ACTIVITY - Simple steps to explore your feelings and heal your consciousness," (2002) by Heather C. Williams, (www.drawingtogether.com) who worked with Capacchione in Los Angeles in the 1980's, helping people with AIDS, and learned the non-dominant drawing from Capacchione at that time. Williams got permission from Capacchione to inclde that technique in her book. Williams has done healing arts work in workshops with Louise Hay and Marianne Williamson."
