I know how you feel..i haven't had alot of luck with west coast galleries..but i've had some decent showings in places like borders.LOl:)
I just haven't gotten my website up although i've owned 3 domains with the same names for a few years...com,,net,.org.(i didn't want to have someone grab my name in another form and make a porno site!!)
This is what happens when you are married to a software engineer..he used to work in the game industry, never had time to work on his own games, never gets to my website or updates his. It's like the painter who never paints his own house:)
There's nothing wrong with showing at Borders! I've seen some amazing art hanging on their walls! ;-)
It's tough, shopping your own art around! Well...at least I know it is for me! I feel way too personally attatched to it and if any rude comments are made, I fly off the handle, freak out and have a hard time holding my tongue about it! :-0
The art that I've been creating lately, is really hard to find a compatible gallery for! The galleries I've looked around at, all seem to want gimicky, pop type stuff. :-(
I've been feeling the inner push to go back into making images. Perhaps that will be something easier to shop around.
That's too bad about your art website not getting finished. :-(
I was afreelance graphic designer part time most of my life..i just sort of lucked out..lived in a small area ,so word of mouth. That is much easier than selling my "ART". People came to me with a design or advertising etc problem..i solved it. And people can relate to an artist doing that..but when it comes to non objective fine art..it gets tough. I've sold some but it was always difficult.
And in some ways, Lg canvases like i used to do aren't popular anymore..People are habving less and less space to show art. I'm not really sure about early 21st century art anymore.
I don't really even show my paintings etc online..mostly my collage work, which i've been doing all my life and in a way seems very "graphc design" oriented.
I deal would be having someone else hustle my art..That would be so worth the money:)
I see large abstract canvases doing quite well online. I think that people like to have something BIG over their couch or in an entry way, to make a "statement".
I agree with you on paying someone else to hustle art! Definately would be worth every dollar spent! ;-)
I hate it too. :-( One of my favorite artists- Fredd Babb, once said "Good Art doesn't match your couch. If you want something to match your couch, then hang a couch above it."
