He was your champion. He was your constant. He was your family. You would have called him your soulmate if you had even believed in such a thing. But life in Sunnydale made you a cynic about a lot of things-- life, friendship, and finding true love.
But then you had reconnected with him, and you had believed that for once, fate was dealing you a fair hand.
But fate? She always had a way of surprising you.
You always thought you’d end up with him because that was how the fairytale went, right? The hero and the heroine always fell for each other. It was an unwritten rule. They found their equal, their balance, in each other and they rode off together in the metaphorical sunset. That’s how the fairytale always worked.
The heroine never fell for the enemy in a fairytale.
But then again, your life had never been a fairytale, had it?
