‘Jaejoong’? It was the first time that Yunho called him by his first name, it was weird but better than an insult though. He was satisfied that his relationship with his ex-rival seemed to be getting better. He started to pack his things, watching his co-worker leave. From now on, he’ll try to be nice to Yunho, he can do it!

“Jaejoong-ah!” his friend Krystal joined him with a smile. “So, how was today? Especially with Choi-sshi.”

“Ugh, don’t even mention his name,” the strawberry boy sighed. “Well today was overall annoying because of him but Jung made it better at the end.”

“Yunho-sshi? How come?” Tomato-girl widened her eyes at her friend’s line.

“I think he’s willing to stop fighting with me. I hope we can work peacefully, that’d be great.”

Krystal smiled and  gave him a thumbs up before waving at her friend. Jaejoong picked all of his stuff, finally leaving ten minutes later. As he made his way back home, he remembered the day’s events one by one. Even though he had to deal with that cucumber guy, he knew he could manage with Yunho. It was a matter of formalities; they just had to act nicer towards each other. Pairing them up might have been a good idea after all.

“Every day and night with you~ Wait, why am I singing out of nowhere?” Yunho let out a sigh, scratching his head, parking the car in front of his house.

For some reason he felt happy despite the money issue. Probably because he was away from his co-worker and the lame-nicknamed man. He shrugged and started to pick his boxes up before someone walked towards him.

“Hi there strawberry-hyung, how was work today~?”

“Good to see you dongsaeng, come on, help me,” Yunho smiled at his little brother.

“Wasn’t it supposed to be today that the new guy would be in the market by any chance?” Changmin asked as he only took the small-sized baskets and boxes.

“Ugh. Yes, it was today. Let’s finish this first and I’ll tell you everything.”

“Wait, there’s dinner before.”

“… Of course,” the eldest rolled his eyes, smiling at his sibling’s sentence.

The two brothers manage to tidy everything fast since someone was hungry. And yes, the older man was grateful. For one of those rare times, Yunho’s father didn’t make fun of him or say mean things to his son. The latter could finally enjoy the meal without any pressure on his shoulders but only relief. Maybe it was a good day after all.

For a few minutes, he washed the dishes, helping out his mother before going upstairs. Seeing his brother in the middle of some game, he decided to take a shower. He didn’t know why but while showering, he remembered the things that happened that day. So Jaejoong was the nice guy and T.O.P the bad guy he concluded. ‘Why am I thinking about those two now in the shower?’

Five minutes later, the young man wore a random loose T-shirt as a pyjama and entered his brother’s room. The latter moved his hand as a sign, eyes still glued to the screen of his TV. ‘Keke,’ he chuckled when he won again then turned to his hyung.

“So, what’s up? I want to know everything.”

“Everything?”

“Everything,” Changmin nodded with a wide smile on his face.

“Err okay… So the guy’s name is Choi something and he has the most ridiculous nickname ever. T.O.P, because ‘I’m always at the ‘top’ and ‘T.O.P’ sounds cool in English’,”  Yunho mimicked the said T.O.P. “He sells cucumbers and has a huge crush on Kim.”

“He sounds kind of cool. Why don’t you like him? What did he do?”

“He’s NOT cool. He brags all the time and is so annoying! He cuts you when you’re talking and attracts people’s attention making them to ignore you! And he earned more than us, can you believe that? That’s NOT cool.”

“… So you want attention, money and Kim?” Changmin summed up, stroking his non-existent beard.

“How… How did you…? How did you come up with a conclusion like that?!” Yunho almost shouted out of surprise. “What’s Kim doing here?”

“Well I don’t know, you tell me. It was you who brought this up,” the younger man smiled.

“Yah you! It was you who wanted to know everything!”

“Yes but Kim was one of the first things you said so it has to be something that’s bothering you, right?”

The strawberry boy sighed, not even bothering to reply to his brother. The latter wanted him to confess something he didn’t want to. He always did that to annoy people and try to find the truth. Changmin was the family genius, everyone knew that but when he was using his brain to analyse people’s reaction and thoughts, it could be scary. His need to discover the truth was sometimes beyond words.

“So, how was working with Kim?”

“I see where you’re going with this, dongsaeng,” Yunho answered in a tired tone.

“Oh come on, that was a neutral question, I swear! Please, believe your innocent lil’ bro~”

“Innocent my ass,” the older man let out a laugh. “But I think the mayor’s idea is actually not that bad. We’re not rivals anymore but co-workers now, I admit the situation will change meaning no fights and complaints by the other merchants. Anyway, I’ll try my best to cooperate with Jaejoong.”

“And you’re even calling him by his first name,” Changmin said smiling ear to ear.

“You didn’t even listen to me!” Yunho groaned before throwing a pillow with his brother’s head as a target.

They fought for awhile until Yunho finally tackled his dongsaeng to the floor. Exhausted by their interaction and his day from work, he finally decided to sleep near eleven o’clock, falling in a deep slumber once he was on his bed.

When Jaejoong arrived at his house, he found Heechul in front of the door calling him. That was weird. After parking the car, his brother ran to him.

“Where’s the ointment?” he suddenly asked apparently in a hurry.

“What? I-I think in the bathroom. Why would you need it?”

“Mom fell and she has this huge bump on her forehead, I wanted to put some ointment to prevent the bump from growing but I couldn’t find it,” Heechul answered quickly as they made their way to the bathroom.

“She what? How? Why didn’t you call me?” Jaejoong frowned, already heading to the living room.

The old woman was laying in the couch, sleeping, with a bump on her forehead like the younger man said. The latter explained what happened while his brother was carefully putting the ointment on his mother’s head. She missed a stair when going to the garage and fell on the grass, fortunately she only got a bump.

“It’s not that bad but you should have called,” Jaejoong glared at his little brother, hands on his hips.

“I did but you weren’t answering! Maybe you ran out of battery or something.”

“Yeah, I’ll pay attention next time but thank God you were here though. We never know what else could have happened,” the strawberry boy sighed. “Have you already eaten?”

“Not yet,” Heechul shook his head. “Let’s prepare something while you tell me how your day was.”

“You mean ‘let me prepare something’ huh? Oh, by the way how was your exam?” Jaejoong asked while looking for vegetables in the fridge.

Heechul nodded with a chuckle and told his brother how he should have worked more and how he will study more seriously for the next exam. Then it was Jaejoong’s turn to talk. He turned to his sibling after checking the oven. He let out a heavy sigh, eyes closed.

“Whoa, was it that bad?”

“Actually… no thanks to Jung. But that new guy… aish, I think I’ll kill him someday,” Jaejoong groaned, unconsciously frowning.

“Oh. You have to explain, you’re actually saying that it was okay with Jung but not with the other guy? Something must have happened, right?” the younger man raised an eyebrow, finishing placing the plates, glasses, forks and knives on the table.

“Surprising, right? Well that Cucumber guy thinks so high of himself and oh God it was so embarrassing! He announced it would be great to go out with me in front of everyone! I mean, I agree, but not with him! And, on his first day he got more money than we did, it’s totally unfair!” the strawberry boy responded, his arms flailing in the air.

“Whoa, fighting! But… what happened with your forever-to-be rival?”

The other man smiled when his brother mentioned his co-worker. He wasn’t that happy -of course- but it felt nice to be kind to his ex-rival. He sat while Heechul was still raising his eyebrows, confused about his brother’s change of attitude.

“He’s actually nice, we didn’t fight that much today it was fine. I hope we can work like that from now on. I won’t mind, as long as he makes me forget about the other,” Jaejoong answered, thinking about T.O.P.

“Well… that was kind of unexpected from you. I never thought you’d say nice things about him. What did he say to change your opinion about him?”

“‘See you tomorrow, Jaejoong’ that’s what he said.”

“That’s it?”

“But he said it with a smile!” the older man insisted.

Heechul stared at his brother, mouth wide open, not knowing what to say. He didn’t really understand how his hyung could be satisfied with such a neutral sentence, even with a smile. Perhaps because Jung called him by his first name? But there was no need to be that happy…

About twenty minutes later, the stew was finally on the table and the boys’ mother woke up to join them. She told them that earlier her legs shook provoking her to fall. It was kind of strange but maybe it was because of her age, she was nearly fifty-five. He didn’t say anything but it still bothered Jaejoong though.

The three of them chatted cheerfully when all of a sudden Heechul couldn’t prevent himself from telling her mother about his brother’s behaviour. The latter stopped him with a hand in front of the mouth while giving him his death glare. After that, his dongsaeng didn’t dare to utter a word.

Jaejoong went to his van after the dinner and prepared all of his boxes before going to the garden, picking up some new strawberries. He decided to make some jam with them and it took him about an hour to finish everything.

- - - -
When Yunho arrived to his work place, he noticed his co-worker’s van was already parked but there was a space for him to park his car. That was nice of him, he thought. ‘Wait, I’m sure he didn’t even do it on purpose.’ Sighing, he picked took his boxes and headed to his stand. Jaejoong lifted his head and smiled at him.

“Good morning!”

“You’re in good mood, that’s… unexpected,” Yunho stated, feeling suspicious.

“Oh so you prefer me to insult you at the beginning of the day?” Jaejoong crossed his arms in front of his chest, staring at him.

“I didn’t say that, I’m just surprised, that’s all.”

“Well I thought that it would be nice to start anew, you know? I feel that we have to cooperate and so, we have to work peacefully. I know you can be a nice guy and I am too so, let’s stop fighting?” the blonde man proposed, handing his hand to Yunho.

The latter didn’t even hesitate and shook hands with his ex-rival’s, smiling lightly. For some reason he was grateful to the other, he didn’t even know if he would have found the right words. They agreed, from now on they would work together and try to avoid any kind of fight even if it would be kind of difficult. But they would manage.

“Wait, wait!” Jaejoong suddenly declared before looking for something in his bag.

The other strawberry boy raised his eyebrows and installed his boxes and other baskets, trying to hide his curiosity. He unfolded a little chair, still glancing at the other boy. Jaejoong finally stood up, showing him something in his hands.

“So, I made this as a thank you, I hope you’d like it,” he smiled as he handed him a jar of strawberry jam.

“Jam! I love jam so much, thank you baby,” someone voiced out, reaching to take the jar.

The two strawberry boys glared at him, one, keeping the jar against him, the other shouting at him. Why did he ruin their moment? They were finally speaking to each other without animosity and the other had to ruin everything.

“Back off, Choi. Go back to your stand, this is a fruit-people area. Shoo!” Jaejoong announced, making a go away motion with his hand.

T.O.P. finally left their stand without a word while the two other men sighed. When would they be alone? Yunho scratched his head then Jaejoong turned to him again.

“Here you go,” he smiled.

“Thanks,” Yunho returned his smile. “Today, we have to work harder. We need to earn more than that lame-nicknamed man err Choi I mean”

“‘Lame-nicknamed man’?” Jaejoong laughed out loud, placing a hand in front of his mouth. “That’s so meeeean!”

“Oh come on…” the taller man rolled his eyes.

“… Yeah, you’re right.”
