“It shouldn’t have happen like this. It shouldn’t have. No,” Yunho exclaimed as he was still on the floor, crying. “Why? Why is everything worse than it was before?”

Change one thing, change everything.

---
The sun’s ray woke a young man’s slumber. He unconsciously put his arm next to him, where a certain someone should have been beside him. The space was empty. Letting out a sigh, he glanced at his clock: 8:30am. Now that he was already awake, it was impossible for him to sleep again. He cursed at the sun, he cursed at his biological clock, and he cursed at his life.

Fifteen minutes later he finally found the strength to get up and wore a bathrobe on his pyjamas before leaving his bedroom, shambling while yawning. He made his way to the living room (at his pace): no one was there. ‘Where is he?’ he thought. Suddenly an idea popped his mind. Of course his boyfriend would be there, why hadn’t he thought of it before?

Standing at their study’s frame, Jaejoong found him siting in front of his desk, working again. He couldn’t help sighing, his man was a workaholic and he had to deal with it. He walked towards him and hugged him lightly before kissing him on his jaw. A smile appeared on the other man’s face.

“Hi you,” Jaejoong murmured as he kissed his neck again.

What a great good-morning, Yunho couldn’t approve more.

“Hi you,” Yunho replied back, eyes shut, smiling all goofy.

“What are you doing?”

Jaejoong set him free from his embrace and stood in front of him until Yunho made him sit on his lap. The latter slipped immediately his arms around his beloved waist.

“Still trying to finish my plans. It should be done soon,” Yunho answered when his boyfriend was looking at his drawing boards. “I can’t wait.”

“I’m still not sure if this is such a good idea,” the other young man pouted while crossing his arms over his chest.

“It is a good idea! I would be the one to conceive the first time machine ever. This is just awesome Joongie, you have no idea.”

The said Joongie wrapped his arms around Yunho’s neck and pressed their foreheads together.

“It can be dangerous, you know,” he whispered, concern could be heard in his voice. “Promise me you would be careful.”

Yunho promised back, giving him another smile before kissing his lips. Jaejoong answered with another kiss and the couple made out for a few minutes.

---
“I can’t find my ring! I can’t find it!” Jaejoong screamed in the apartment as he ran in all the rooms to look for the missing object. “I’m sure I saw it somewhere! God! Why me? Why today?”

His lover tried his best to not laugh at his boyfriend’s attitude. The latter had a job interview that morning and for every event like this he would get all nervous, running everywhere, freaking out. Yunho leaned on the wall and his eyes followed the other man who was moving all the cushions in the living room before checking some drawers.

“I’m sure you took it. It’s you, it’s always you,” Jaejoong murmured in a bad mood, talking about Yunho. “You love driving me nuts anyway. Well, I have some information for you Mr. Jung, you succeed very well.”

“It’s just a ring, Jae. Come on, you’re going to be late,” the younger man chucked lightly before regretting his words.

“Yunho did not say that. He did not put you under even more pressure on purpose,” Jae said as he tried to reassure himself by ignoring his boyfriend remark.

It wasn’t any ring, he wanted to say; it was their ring. The first Yunho offered him and since then he claimed it his lucky charm. Luck, he would really need it. Today was a big day, he finally managed to get his first interview in the last two years. He had to not mess up and that was why he needed everything to be perfect. He was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, really. He didn’t even notice Yunho’s standing in front of him.

The latter took his beloved’s face in his hands and kissed his forehead. He pulled on his necklace slowly with a smile. Oh! The infamous ring!

“Silly head.”

He earned a wide smile plus a peck on the lips until Jaejoong cleaned the mess. Yes, he couldn’t bear to leave the place not clean and come on, it’s not like Yunho would tidy it anyway. Five minutes later, the elder man drank his cup of coffee quickly, almost neglecting his own breakfast.

“I’ll take the car!” he announced as he stepped out of the apartment the second after.

Yunho was carefully staring at his plans, adding few details, erasing some things etc. He was working hard. His ‘time machine’ -as he liked to claim it- wasn’t looking as furniture like you see it on movies. He just conceived a bracelet such as a watch with a little digital screen. Though he wasn’t as easy as it seemed. The man had to know a bit of electricity and such. However, he succeeded. He just needed to ‘build’ it and he would have the first time machine ever.

Stretching himself on his chair, he decided to stop all activity. He had been working for three hours in a row and he now felt as though he wanted his own death. When he was about to get up, his phone rang suddenly. The second after, he managed to pick up. Two minutes later, he dropped the receiver and stood still. It was like time had stopped. His heart was pounding like crazy, his eyes were starting to water as the phone’s voice’ words were running in his head.

‘Kim Jaejoong has been transferred in our hospital after a car accident. His days are numbered.’

Jaejoong being a hair's breadth from death, Yunho was staying all day with his unconscious lover. He was so gnawed away by pain that he couldn’t think about anything else besides his boyfriend’s state. He cried every night, feeling like a part of him was taken away. He felt empty. For a week he was letting himself be, acting like a zombie, uncaring about anything. He wanted to fix things, he wanted to do something; he couldn’t let his Joongie die.

That was when he thought about his project again. Even if he didn’t like the idea of using it on a short notice, he didn’t have the choice. He needed to bring Jaejoong back to life.

Two days later, after visiting his lover at the hospital, Yunho came back home and walked towards his room immediately. As his bracelet was finally done, he needed to act as fast as possible. The young man programmed a certain date and breathed in deeply. Countdown started and then, everything went black.

---
“I can’t find my ring! I can’t find it! I’m sure I saw it somewhere! God! Why me? Why today?”

Yunho opened his eyes and recognised the place he was: their bedroom. He glanced at his clock before stepping out of the room. He wasn’t expecting to see his boyfriend actually doing the same things than the other time. Of course, he was in the past but… it was strange for some reason. He already knew what the other would say; it was disturbing.

“I’m sure you took it. It’s you, it’s always you,” Jaejoong groaned as he glared at Yunho. “You love driving me nuts anyway. Well, I have some information for you Mr. Jung, you succeed very well.”

The other man walked towards his Joongie kissed him on the lips before hugging his body. God, he missed him so much. He took his face in his hands and gave him another peck on the lips. And before his boyfriend could say something, he pulled on his necklace.

“You’re just a silly head, I love you,” he whispered with emotion.

Jaejoong looked at him, clueless. What happened to his Yunnie? He looked weird; he must have slept well. The young man wanted to rush but he found his lover in front of him with a cup of coffee in his hands.

“Drink it slowly, you’re not that late, honey, okay?”

“O-Okay,” Jaejoong replied confused before sipping in his coffee. “I’ll take the car,” he added when he took the keys.

“Don’t!” Yunho suddenly yelled out of nowhere.

“Why?”

“I… I ha-have to take the car for its MOT… Just… take the cab, okay?” the taller man stuttered, his heart pounding like crazy.

His beloved gave in after giving him his pout with his arms crossed over his chest. ‘This is so unfair. I’ll get my revenge, Jung Yunho,’ he murmured, still pouting. Two minutes later, he was already gone and Yunho sighed while glancing at his bracelet. Fours seconds to the countdown, it was close.

---
When Yunho came back in the ‘present’, he felt dizzy, on the verge of throwing up. He wasn’t already used to this ‘process’. He didn’t want to be used to this though, it was the first and last time he would used it. The boy took off his bracelet, stretched his back and left his room.

The man couldn’t believe it: the whole living room was barely recognizable. The floor was strewn with empty coke cans, a lot of tissues, a few empty bottles of beer as well as banana peels. ‘What the fuck happened here?,’ Yunho thought. Suddenly he heard a flushing sound and when he turned his head, he saw his boyfriend.

The latter didn’t look the same. He was wearing an old baggy with a huge shabby grey T-Shirt; his hair wasn’t even combed and had bags under his eyes. That wasn’t the same Jaejoong who was cursing at him or lying in a hospital’s bed. The young man didn’t even bother to look at Yunho as he took another can from the fridge and made his way to the couch.

Yunho followed him and stood in front of him, frowning in confusion. What happened to him? He couldn’t wait to ask him this question.

“Whadaya want?” the man, who was casually sitting, murmured after swallowing.

“Wha-what happened? In here? To you? What is this all about? And your interview? How did it go?”

“It was three days ago, thanks for asking! And it went pretty good, thanks to you, haha!” Jaejoong laughed a bit too loud to be believable.

“What do you mean?” Yunho asked, even more confused as his lover spoke again.

“I was caught in a traffic jam, thanks to you! I arrived too late because of your fucking precious cab, Yunnie!”

With widened eyes, Yunho realised his mistake: he changed the past; he changed the process of time; he changed the present. It wasn’t supposed to be like this, he only wanted to save Jaejoong’s life, that was all. He didn’t mean to disrupt the events. ‘Shit, what did I do?’

“Cat got your tongue, now?”

“I’ll… I’ll be back…” Yunho murmured in thoughts as he ran to his study room.

He messed up he couldn’t deny it. Though, he wanted to fix things again. He didn’t have another choice, he didn’t want to see his Joongie in this angry state ever again. Was it too late already? He refused to think so; he still had his bracelet. This was an emergency, he needed to go back in time as soon as possible. The minute after, he disappeared again.

---
“I can’t find my ring! I can’t find it! I’m sure I saw it somewhere! God! Why me? Why today?”

Third time hearing this, Yunho let out a sigh when he made his way to the living room. He leaned on the wall and spoke, Jaejoong’s words from the other times still in his mind.

“I didn’t hide your ring, and no, I don’t like to drive you crazy. The ring is in your necklace.”

“… Erm,” Jaejoong didn’t dare to say something else since his lover seemed to read his mind.

“Now, drink your coffee, you’re not that late. Don’t take a cab, there will be a traffic jam, I’ll drive you, I know a few shortcuts,” Yunho announced as took his coat.

“Hey! What’s wrong?” the other young man finally asked.

“Nothing. Now hurry up, come on.”

“Hey, I can drive, you know. I don’t need you-”

“You’re a terrible driver,” Yunho blurted out, remembering the nurse’s words the first time. “You’d kill yourself.”

At that moment, he almost regretted his words, they were a bit harsh but he couldn’t help himself. He was just stating the truth. Jaejoong, on the other hand, saw red. He may not be the best driver ever, he knew he wasn’t a real danger on roads. Yunho was being mean on purpose.

“I can take care of myself, thank you very much,” he replied bitterly. “And I don’t need your help, I’m independent, you know.”

Their discussion -if we could call it like that- became heated little by little. Yunho couldn’t reveal everything to his lover, that was why he insisted on taking him to his interview however the other man felt insulted. He couldn’t believe Yunho was actually lording it over him, treating him like a kid. He got so angry that he started to give him his piece of mind until he lost track of his words and insulted him.

“You know what? Fuck off. I can live without you, you’re not someone that special anyway,” Jaejoong spat as he glared at Yunho.

The minute later, he left the building with his lover who didn’t have the time to sigh. His bracelet rang and he disappeared once again.

---
For the first time, Yunho landed in his bed. ‘Thank God,’ he thought. As he felt nauseous, he decided to lie down for a few minutes. However he didn’t expect to take a nap. When he opened his eyes, the young man inspected the room before taking slowly his phone. The date was two months after he came back from the past. That was a pretty long nap then.

He finally got up ten minutes later and walked towards the living room. The place was empty, the same as before. Yunho glanced back at his phone: 7am. Where could his Jaejoong be? Usually at this time, he would be in the bathroom or in the kitchen… The young man frowned: this was weird. He shrugged and left the place to the bathroom.

After taking a long and good shower, Yunho went to their room and opened his closet to pick a random TShirt. He suddenly widened his eyes before opening other drawers until he realized that all of Jaejoong’s clothes were gone. What was happening? When he came back to the kitchen, he only found his mug while his Joongie’s wasn’t there. All of his lover’s objects, clothes etc were gone. This was even stranger. Scratching his head nervously, Yunho decided to dial his boyfriend’s number.

“Hello?”

“Jaejoong! Where are you? I’m worried sick, all of your clothes are gone! What’s going on?” Yunho asked, concerned about his Joongie’s whereabouts.

“What were you expecting me to do?” the other man replied coldly. “It took you two months to notice that I was gone by the way. Bravo.”

“Gone? What- What do you mean?”

“We’re through,” Jaejoong stated simply, as his voice remained cold. “Now, I’d like you to leave me alone…”

“No! I-I mean… We could start anew… Or, I don’t know… but we can’t… you can’t give up… on us, Jae…” Yunho panicked when he heard his ex-future-boyfriend’s words.

“We’re over, Yunho. Over means ‘the end’.”

Jaejoong hung up before Yunho could say something else. The latter let his phone fall on the floor as he was staring into space. What had happened? Why did his time machine bring him two months later than the date he was supposed to be? Or… was it his fault?

“It shouldn’t have happen like this. It shouldn’t have. No,” Yunho exclaimed as he was still on the floor, crying. “Why? Why is everything worse than it was before?”

He didn’t know why; he didn’t care. It was already too late. He lost his Jaejoong and nothing else mattered. He fell on his knees, taking his head in his hands, starting to sob. He only wanted to save his beloved’s life… He may have prepared everything with his ‘time machine’, but he hadn’t thought of the consequences of his acts. He didn’t know that if you change one single thing in the past, you would change everything.

---
A young man was crying silently, trying and failing to hold back his tears. Wiping his tears with his sweater’s sleeves, he sniffed until he noticed the presence of his friend. The latter sighed and sat next to him.

“You’re too sensitive, Jae,” the man called Changmin told him. “You should forget about it anyway.”

“But it hurts... so much…” Jaejoong whispered.

“I know but, come on, it’s not even realistic!” the younger man exclaimed suddenly. “I mean, Yunho may be smart, but he’s not brilliant enough to conceive a time machine!”

The crying boy stopped sobbing. What an awesome friend that was Changmin! Ironic, of course. The latter got up while letting out another sigh and spoke before leaving.

“You shouldn’t get so worked up. I mean, it’s only a fanfiction.”
