A/N: B-day fic to thepwahlove  !

He had been in the first place since the beginning. He didn’t know how he managed to be the first but at this moment, he didn’t care. He was too overwhelmed with joy that he wouldn’t be bothered even if there were twenty laps left. He knew he had to not lower his guard because of too much enthusiasm though; his rivals would take advantage of it and the young man was determined to win at all costs.

For now, everything seemed to be going fine. He still had some fuel and oil, and his team was telling him through the earphone in his helmet that the vehicle was operational for at least another five to ten laps. The situation was all good. He looked at his wing mirrors and saw just one of the other racers behind him but at a fair distance away, being not too close at all. He smiled, knowing that he was still in front of him, in front of all of them.

“You have to stop; there may be a problem with your airfoil. Come to our stand during the next lap as it would be safer,” his manager told him.

“I can’t stop now! Not only him, but the others will pass me for sure!” the young man replied in frustration.

“Kim Jaejoong.”

The said Jaejoong didn’t dare to utter another word, startled by this sudden cold voice. He fumed; he didn’t want to be the last but he couldn’t disobey his manager. Besides, when his car was approaching the stand, his airfoil burst open, making the car wobble as he went to his stable. It was close. As soon as the vehicle stopped, a technical crew ran towards it. They didn’t have much time to check everything though; ten seconds seemed to be more than enough.

When Kim Jaejoong returned onto the racetrack, his manager had told him that he was now the third. Since his tank was now full with his car seemingly fixed, he speeded up a little. He needed to win back his place, no matter what. A few minutes later, he was close to the second opponent but he couldn’t pass him. The young man could at least put the other under pressure since he was approaching the other car. He even tried to push him though it was a bit hazardous when they were approaching a curve.

He was about to overtake his rival when the famous yellow flag was waved. ‘Shit,’ Jaejoong thought as the vehicle he hated the most in his career as a racer -also known as the safety car- appeared in the racetrack. Okay, it was a bit useful when an accident happened but the young man couldn’t help but hate it. He had to stay behind the guy he was about to pass or he would be disqualified. Still, he didn’t like to be stuck at such a position. He didn’t like to wait. Damn it, it was a race after all!

Apparently, one of them had a problem with the motor and it had exploded, causing quite a couple of racers to crash into each other. He didn’t care what had happened even though his team informed him that five racers were out of the competition. He was too focused on his task. That was why he didn’t waste his time and passed his concurrent as soon as the safety car left the racetrack.

“Well, bye bye to you Park Yoochun,” Jaejoong smirked when he noticed that his opponent seemed to have a tyre problem.

The latter ended up slowing down, leaving the track; that was all good for Jaejoong. He even succeeded in approaching the last man in front of him in his progress. ‘Shim Changmin, you’re mine.’

“Don’t speed too much, Kim. Save some fuel,” a voice ordered him. "He’ll stop soon and you’ll win his spot. Until then, don’t make any foolish moves.»

“I can have him! I just know!” the young man replied frustrated.

He knew he was able to win over that Shim Changmin.

“Don’t use that tone with me. Understood?” the manager’s voice sent a thrill down his spine. “You should watch your words.”

“Understood,” the racer finally gave in with a murmur.

As much as Jaejoong didn’t like to admit that his superior was right, he saw once again that he was; his opponent was heading to the way leading to the stable. It was now or never, Jaejoong thought. This time, as he was allowed to speed, the young man didn’t waste a single second and enjoyed his acceleration freely. This, was something he liked; besides, it was well paid.

One lap left and he would be first; he couldn’t help feeling elated. He was about to win. Just a few more meters and he would brandish his trophy.

“Kim, be careful. N°8 is coming.”

“He won’t pass me,” Jaejoong assured his ‘boss’. ‘He can’t pass me, I’m Kim Jaejoong after all,’ he thought.

“He passed six cars in less than two minutes,” the voice in the headphones remained neutral.

“… Crap.” the pilot couldn’t help blurting out.

He may be the best racer in the race, not to mention the world’s champion, but he couldn’t deny being surprised by this N°8’s moves. He accelerated a bit more but he had to be careful with the road due to all the winding curves. Damn, now he was getting distracted!

“Jae!”

The young man didn’t have the chance to reply to his manager; he didn’t have the time to take a glance at his wing window when he heard a motor’s sound. The other’s car was right next to his and was starting to shove him aside. Jaejoong tried his best to win their duel but he wasn’t expecting yet another move from his rival. This time, the latter sent him away from the road. Jaejoong didn’t see that coming.

Immediately, the young man lost control of his vehicle and he was so afraid that his car would flip over. Instead, it hurt a wall of tyres brutally. And everything went black.

“Still!” a young man exclaimed with a frown while raising his spoon. “I don’t wear his clothes, so who gave him the permission to taste MY food huh?” he added, talking about his roommate.

His friend in front of him let out a sigh after taking a sip of coffee.

“Don’t you think you can share it with him? He’s your roommate, Changmin,” Yunho stated. "Anyway, don’t talk too loud. Jae’s still sleeping."

The two men finished their breakfast a few minutes later, talking about a range of topics before the person named Jaejoong entered into the living room. He didn’t even bother to greet them; he wasn’t a morning person after all so they wouldn’t reproach him for that. However, Yunho was expecting a small peck as usual. When he didn’t get one, it seemed odd. Jaejoong just sat next to Changmin, drank his milk and left for the bathroom.

“That was weird.”

“Huh?” Yunho’s guest raised an eyebrow.

“I didn’t get my morning kiss,” his friend replied with a pout.

“You know how he’s always moody in the morning. There’s no need to make a fuss about it, man,” Changmin rolled his eyes while sighing.

“Yeah. I guess you’re right…”

“You know I always am.”

Since they didn’t know what to do, they just hung out in front of the TV, playing video games the whole morning. Yunho’s boyfriend had joined them and sat next to Changmin. As the other man witnessed their talking, he couldn’t help feeling a little jealous. His lover was obviously ignoring him. He wasn’t being paranoid!

“Do you want to lunch here?” Jaejoong asked Changmin with a smile when he heard the latter man’s stomach growling.

“I’ve already ate with you two this morning. Maybe I should leave you some time alone-”

“But you do want to have lunch, right?” his interlocutor asked again.

“… Yes, but-” Changmin was interrupted again in the middle of his sentence.

“So you’re staying here, right?” Jaejoong insisted.

This time, Changmin didn’t dare to disagree with him. Who knows what would happen? He wasn’t naive; he saw that the other was almost begging him to stay. Why? He didn’t have a clue. Jaejoong then exclaimed cheerfully that he would start to cook and headed towards the kitchen. Yunho took benefit of his absence to get close to Changmin.

“Maybe you were right after all,” the latter murmured before Yunho could speak. “It was weird you didn’t get your morning kiss.”

The lunch went pretty well according to Changmin - he was able to eat as much as he wanted and was entertained by Jaejoong’s presence. On the hand, Yunho found it hard to bear this ignorance. He didn’t understand why he deserved such a treatment from his lover. Yesterday, he tucked him in bed, they didn’t have sex, and he let him sleep.

Really, he didn’t know why he was being ignored.

“Well, I should take my leave. Yoochun will complain about me avoiding him,” Changmin sighed. “Thanks again for the meal guys.”

After the young man left his friends, Jaejoong started to bring the dishes into the kitchen without a word. Yunho watched him and helped him silently. Now, that was really becoming an awkward silence. He couldn’t take it anymore; he needed to know.

“Jae, what’s wrong?”

His lover continued his tasks, not bothering to answer back. Yunho approached him, put the plates down and leaned on the counter. He wanted to stroke his arm when his boyfriend interrupted him.

“Don’t.”

“Huh? What’s going on, baby?” Yunho frowned in confusion. “Why are you ignoring me?”

“Don’t ‘baby’ me. I’m mad at you,” Jaejoong retorted without looking at him.

The taller man blinked. Why was Jaejoong being so cold towards him? Why was he mad? That was what he had been asking but he didn’t get an answer. Yunho gave up, letting him do the dishes and decided to do the cleaning just so that he could be more busy.

Later, he distracted himself by playing video games all afternoon in order not to think about Jaejoong’s strange behaviour towards him. It worked out rather well until his boyfriend decided to sit on the couch. He stopped his game and turned to the other man.

“Listen, I’m going to ask you for the last time and I won’t bother you with this anymore. What happened, Jae? Why are you mad?”

“I lost,” Jaejoong murmured with his eyes shut, remembering some of the painful memories. “Because you crashed into me.”

Yunho widened his eyes, confused by his lover’s words. He sat next to him -but not too close- and said a ‘what’ Wait, what did he say? It was a bit odd.

“I was first! I was about to win and your car crashed into mine! And guess what? You won and I lost!” Yunho’s boyfriend blurted out suddenly.

“Hey hey hey, calm down,” the other man told him softly. “What are you even talking about?”

“Like you don’t know.”

“I really don’t.”

Yunho stared at his lover who was avoiding his gaze and whispered a ‘Come on, tell me.’ Then he saw him pouting; he knew the latter’s anger would vanish quickly now.

“I dreamt that I lost the race world cup,” Jaejoong confessed, getting the awful events off his chest. “I had passed Yoochun, and then I even get to win over Changmin. I was first until you came out of nowhere and my boss told me that you were really good, that I had to be careful and I tried to speed up but you shoved me aside and took my position. I think I died.”

As much as the taller man wanted to laugh, he bit his lip, in order to prevent himself from mocking his honey. That was really amusing. Jaejoong was remaining so serious as if it was an important matter. Yunho coughed lightly.

“It was a dream, Jae.”

“But it felt so real, so painful.”

“Okay,” Yunho said in a whisper as he took Jaejoong’s hands. “I promise that I won’t cause you another accident. I’ll let you win.”

“Really?” Jaejoong whispered as a tear ran down his cheek. “But… what about you?”

“As long as you win, I don't care being second,” his lover squeezed his hands with a smile.

Yunho wiped his boyfriend’s tear with his thumb before kissing his forehead. He then left soft kisses on his eyelids before placing his arms around the other’s waist. Their faces were really close, so close that Jaejoong could feel Yunho’s breath on his lips. They kissed for a few seconds but it didn’t matter to Yunho since he got his late morning kiss! Jaejoong snuggled against Yunho’s body, his head leaning on his lover’s shoulder.

“I’ll be paid more than you though,” Jaejoong murmured with a smirk.
