Rejected. Dammit.

Just got the e-mail. The agent who was looking at my full manuscript has rejected it.

I'm glad I read it tonight, as reading it tomorrow morning would have ruined my whole damn day, and hey, at least today's almost over.

What really bothers me isn't so much the getting rejected; that's par for the course, and I'm thankful it only took about a month. That's pretty fast for a full manuscript. No, what bothers me is that the reason it was rejected is that the publisher only works with books that have a strong romantic element. While there is a love story in Skyborne, it's not the main focus of the plot, so that kept it from qualifying. This bothers me a ton because the people running the pitch contest failed to mention it.

If an agent reps a company that only takes books with a certain element, that should bloody well be pointed out when dealing with the agent. But no. The contest specifically said it had to be New Adult (any genre).

So yeah. It's not so much the rejection that bothers me. It's that I spent a month hoping for something that never had a chance.
