From Sunday, 'Published' Today for Some Unknown Reason

I had an awesome night last night - book release party up in the City (San Francisco, donchaknow). :) Sooj was there (she remembered me - squee!), and the music was righteous. Can't wait to read the book, either. :)

I also got a copy of Sooj's latest album, "Mischief", which can be found (along with her other albums) for listening and download at her website: S.J. Tucker - Skinny White Chick (http://www.sjtucker.com/). Or, if you want to know more about her personally, you can look up her LJ: s00j.

From her website: "A petite and beautiful siren, S.J. Tucker thrills her fans with a unique alternative-rock style, flavored with a dose of blues, a dash of celtic, a taste of punk, and even a hint of folk for good measure. Her music is interwoven with mythic lore, avant-garde poetry, and modern storytelling."

I've decided to share some of Sooj's amazing lyrics with you all, hoping that you might get inspired to at least listen (if not purchase) her songs:

"My friend bids me come and see/ The ravens in the library/ Setting quiet pages free." - Ravens in the Library (Mischief)

"If I leave my grin behind me/ Remind me that we're all mad here/ And it's OK." Cheshire Kitten (Mischief)

One of her funnier songs: "Paragon of dignity/ Untouchable and lethal/ But there's more to life than shuriken/ .... I'm only doing what a ninja's gotta do/ Following The Way/ Creeping night and day/ I won't say life is hard/ But I must restrain my urges to run naked through my yard/ No ninja goes out streaking/ It just simply isn't done/ My career would shrivel up and die/ But, damn, would it be fun/ To see the neighbor's eyes as big as saucers/ Peering from their doors...." - The Truth about Ninjas (Mischief)

And, on a more serious note, and speaking of her affiliation with Wicca..... "Sweet sixteen and bold as love/ The angel I've been dreaming of/ Sweet sixteen and here she comes, I see the candlelight from her window/ Well, she just bought her first book of spells/ One step further from the wishing wells of childhood/ She's a woman grown/ I tell you, girls, if I'd known,/ I'd do it all over exactly the same./ She walked into my life and I said "Witchka!/ Where have you been,/ Tell me about the trouble you've been in...." - Witchka (Mischief)

Of course I must include the song that she says "brings the sexy back to a 400 year old tale" (It was a struggle to find my favorite stretch of lyrics in this one): "Up and spoke the faerie Queen,/ And angry queen was she, /"Woe betide the wretch who's ta'en/ The best knight of our company./ "Had I but known, Tam Lin," she said,/ "The defeat this night I'd see,/ I'd've stolen both thine eyes/ Tnd changed thee fast into a tree./ Had I but known, Tam Lin," she said,/ "tefore we left this night to roam,/ I'd've et thy heart of flesh/ and left thee with a heart of stone [*amazing* vocal ornamentation here]/ Janet tied her kirtle green/ Above her knee and not below/ And she's off to Carterhaugh/ Just as fast as love can go." - Tam Lin (Mythcreants) [recorded by the band Tricky Pixie]

"Never had such valentines as these on my mind/ All the faces I've seen, the places I've been/ They don't stack up, even at the same time/ To you and your white-violet skin." - To My Valentine (Mischief)

And finally,[is anyone still reading?.... ;)], one of the songs I can't get out of my head: "The dreams are coming wild and still/ The dreams are coming in./ The thief of love collects her kill/ The night can now begin/ (Walls start closing in)/ The pixie can't sleep (x3) ..... She loved you better,/ Could you let her?/ She's banished back to the dreaming/ just forget her.... The pixie can't sleep (x3),/ Just a little too late/ The dragon dreams,/ The Goddess rises and She screams, 'Girl, what are you doing?/ Your love is a dream/ Without a setting/ And you're forgetting the lesson learned.'" The Pixie Can't Sleep (Tangles)
